I got this recipe from my mother-in-law shortly after I was married. Now it is a favorite of our kids. I like to serve it over rice.

1 pound ground beef
1 egg
1 onion, chopped
1 cup dry bread crumbs
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup water
½ cup cider vinegar
½ cup ketchup
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons soy sauce

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine beef, egg, onion, bread crumbs, salt and pepper. Roll into meatballs about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in size.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, saute the meatballs until browned on all sides.
  • In a separate medium bowl, mix together the water, vinegar, ketchup, cornstarch, sugar and soy sauce. Pour over the meatballs, and allow sauce to thicken. Continue to heat until the sauce just starts to bubble.

A wonderful savory meatball and sweet sauce recipe that works as a main dish, or you can use just the meatball recipe part for parties. I recommend serving over white rice.

2 pounds lean ground beef
2 eggs
1 cup dry bread crumbs
½ cup finely chopped onion
½ teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
1 (20 ounce) can pineapple chunks, drained with juice reserved
⅓ cup water
3 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
½ cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
½ teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon seasoning salt
1 large carrot, diced
1 large green bell pepper, cut into 1/2 inch pieces

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease a large, shallow baking sheet.
  • In a large bowl, thoroughly mix the ground beef, eggs, bread crumbs and onion. Sprinkle with ginger, seasoning salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce and sugar. Shape into one inch balls.
  • Place meatballs in a single layer on prepared baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes; set aside.
  • To make the sauce, mix enough water with the reserved pineapple juice to make 1 cup. In a large pot over medium heat, combine the juice mixture, 1/3 cup water, vinegar, soy sauce, and brown sugar. Stir in cornstarch, ginger and seasoning salt, until smooth. Cover and cook until thickened.
  • Stir pineapple chunks, carrot, green pepper and meatballs into the sauce. Gently stir to coat the meatballs with the sauce. Simmer, uncovered, for about 20 minutes, or until meatballs are thoroughly cooked.

1 egg
¼ cup dry bread crumbs
1 onion, diced
1 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups water
¼ cup distilled white vinegar
3 tablespoons soy sauce

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs and onion. Mix thoroughly and shape into golf ball-sized balls.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, gently brown the meatballs and set aside.

1 lb minced beef or 1 lb minced veal
1 (10 ounce) can tomato soup
1 (5 1/2 ounce) can tomato paste
2 onions, diced
1 lemon, juice of
salt
pepper
garlic powder
1 egg
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
4 -6 tablespoons brown sugar, to taste

Steps:

  • Add breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, garlic powder and egg to minced meat (if you wish, you can add a bit of water) Roll into balls and set aside Brown diced onions in olive oil until golden in large skillet with a lid Brown the balls and gently turn them until evenly browned.
  • During this step you can keep skillet covered, which prevents the balls from sticking.
  • Add soup, paste, lemon juice, brown sugar and cover.
  • Cook on low heat, mixing occasionally for 90 min.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or rice (recipe can be easily doubled or tripled).

1 red peppers or 1 green pepper
1 cup frozen mango chunks
1/2 cup water
4 actifry spoons ketchup
1 actifry spoon mustard
1 spoon maple syrup
1 spoon vinegar
1 spoon grated onion
1 minced garlic clove
1 teaspoon cornstarch

Steps:

  • Place meatballs, peppers and mango in Actifry pan.
  • Whisk water, ketchup, mustard, maple syrup, vinegar, onion, garlic and cornstarch. Add to Actifry pan.

1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can tomato soup
1/2 cup water
1 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed
1 teaspoon citric acid (to taste)
1 medium onion, sliced
1 (20 ounce) can pineapple chunks in pineapple juice, drained
1 cup long grain white rice

Steps:

  • In a medium size mixing bowl, combine first five ingredients. Roll into small meatballs and set aside.
  • Mix the next four ingredients together and set aside.
  • Layer all the onion slices on the bottom of a large heavy pot. Place the uncooked meatballs on top of the onions and then pour the liquid mixture on top. Place a lid on the pot and simmer for about 30 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through. Add the pineapple to the meatballs in the last ten minutes of cooking. Stir once or twice during cooking.
  • Meanwhile, boil 5 cups lightly salted water. Add the rice after water is boiling. Boil until rice is tender (about 20 minutes); drain.
  • Serve the meatballs and pineapple over the rice in individual plates and pour extra sauce on top of each.

1 lb ground pork
2 cups soft breadcrumbs
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

3 drops Tabasco sauce or 3 drops rogers hot sauce

1 egg
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 onion, chopped finely
1/3 cup Rice Krispies or 1/3 cup corn flakes
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup vinegar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon soya sauce

Steps:

  • In a bowl mix together the beef, pepper, salt, egg, onion, and oatmeal. Once combined roll meat into about 1 inch balls and fry until brown, then set off to the side to let rest.
  • In a sauce pan add ingredients and keep stirring at a medium-high heat until mixture dissolves.
  • Once sauce is dissolved, put cooked meat balls into a baking dish and pour sweet and sour sauce on top. Cover with lid and bake in the oven at 350°F for 30 minutes.

Steps:
