These are moist drop cookies that you can add any of your favorite ingredients to. Chocolate, butterscotch, or peanut butter chips, nuts, candied fruit, or chopped candy bars all taste delicious. You are only limited by your imagination. Be creative and enjoy.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
1/2 cup shortening
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup candy bars, chopped etc or 1 cup raisins, etc

Steps:

  • Cream together sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla. Add all dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. At this point stir in your favorite candy, chocolate chips, nuts, candied fruit, raisins or anything you would like to use.
  • Drop by teaspoonfuls on greased cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.

This Italian Wine Cookie recipe was handed down through many generations. Thay are a crisp, not-too-sweet, EASY TO MAKE cookie that are great with coffee or tea.

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 cup dry red wine
½ cup vegetable oil
⅓ cup granulated sugar for decoration

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder and sugar. Add the wine and oil. Mix with a large fork and then with your hands.
  • Roll small pieces of dough between hands to make "logs" then shape into circles. The circles should be no bigger than the 2 inches in diameter. Roll cookies in extra sugar and place on cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 25 minutes or until slightly brown. After cookies cool they should be hard and crisp.

My mom made these when I was a kid and we all loved them. They're good plain, or with a simple powdered sugar icing on top. They are really great with a cold glass of milk!!

1/2 cup soft shortening (part butter)
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cocoa

Steps:

  • Mix shortening, sugar and egg.
  • Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla.
  • Sift together dry ingredients and stir into buttermilk mixture.
  • Chill at least 1 hour.
  • Drop by rounded teaspoons on lightly greased cookie sheet; about 2" apart.
  • Bake at 400° just until almost no imprint remains when lightly touched.

Many years ago, I asked my mother why these are called wine drop cookies if there wasn't any wine in the recipe. She just said because they were so rich and good. A soft molasses cookie with easy batter preparation.

½ cup molasses
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup cold water
3 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground cloves
½ teaspoon ground ginger
½ cup raisins

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  • Beat oil, sugar and eggs. Add molasses, vanilla, and water.
  • Stir in dry ingredients.
  • Drop by teaspoons on cookie sheets sprayed with non stick spray.
  • Bake for 15 minutes. Cool tray slightly before removing.
