It's fun to take a yellow cake mix and create something that is this rich and wonderful. We like eating the bars when they are cold, right out of the refrigerator. They're ideal with a tall glass of milk. -LaDonna Reed, Ponca City, Oklahoma

1/2 cup butter, cubed
32 caramels
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1 package yellow cake mix (regular size)
1/2 cup canola oil
2 eggs
2 cups miniature semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup vanilla or white chips
1 Heath candy bar (1.4 ounces), chopped

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, combine the butter, caramels and milk; cook and stir over medium-low heat until smooth. Cool. , In a large bowl, beat the cake mix, oil and eggs until blended. Stir in chips and chopped candy bar (dough will be stiff). , Press three-fourths into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes. Place on a wire rack for 10 minutes., Pour caramel mixture over the crust. Drop remaining dough by spoonfuls onto caramel layer. Bake for 25-30 minutes longer or until edges are golden brown. , Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes; run a knife around edges of pan. Cool 40 minutes longer; cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup white vanilla baking chips
1/2 cup white vanilla baking chips, melted

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottom and sides of 13x9-inch pan with shortening or cooking spray.
  • In large bowl, beat brown sugar, butter, vanilla and eggs with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in flour and baking powder until well blended. Stir in walnuts and 1 cup baking chips. Spread in pan.
  • Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown and center is set. Cool completely, about 1 hour. Drizzle with melted chips. Let stand until set. For bars, cut into 6 rows by 6 rows.

1 (12 1/4 ounce) jar caramel ice cream topping

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Combine 2 cups flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Stir in butter. Reserve 1 cup, press remaining mixture into ungreased 13 x 9 inch baking pan.
  • Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and walnuts.
  • Combine caramel topping and remaining 1/3 cup flour; drizzle over base. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned.

1/3 cup rolled oats, processed finely
1/2 cup self-raising flour
2 teaspoons cocoa powder
1/3 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup coconut
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 (397 g) can sweetened condensed milk
1/3 cup syrup
2 tablespoons butter, cubed
180 g white chocolate (good quality)
vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 180 deg C {350 deg F} - line a 20 x 20cm {8 x 8 inch} baking dish with baking paper - leave an edge hanging over the sides.
  • Combine the Oats, Flour, Cocoa Powder, Brown Sugar and Coconut in a medium mixing bowl - add the melted butter and mix - press onto the bottom of the prepared baking dish - bake 10 minutes.
  • Place the Condensed Milk, Syrup and cubed Butter in a medium saucepan - heat over medium heat, stirring until the Butter has melted - simmer for 5 - 10 minutes until the mixture thickens and turns a light caramel color.
  • Pour the caramel mixture over the baked crust - bake 10 minutes - remove from the oven and cool completely.
  • Melt the White Chocolate {microwave or over boiling water} - add 2 teaspoons Oil - stir to combine - pour over the caramel - refrigerate 30 minutes or until set - cut into bars using a hot knife.

32 individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
5 tablespoons heavy cream
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup rolled oats
¾ cup brown sugar
½ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ cup butter, melted
½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
½ cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt together the caramels and heavy cream, stirring occasionally until smooth.
  • In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda and salt. Stir in the melted butter until well blended. Press Half of the mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking pan. Reserve the rest.
  • Bake the crust for 8 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove and sprinkle with chocolate chips and walnuts. Pour the caramel mixture over the top and then crumble the remaining crust mixture over everything.
  • Return to the oven and bake for an additional 12 minutes, or until the top is lightly toasted. Cut into squares while it is still warm.
