Crescent rolls update the popular "pig-in-blanket" concept, along with a yummy surprise: melted cheese in each frank.

8 hot dogs
4 slices American cheese, each cut into 6 strips (3/4 oz each)
1 (8 ounce) can Pillsbury® Refrigerated Crescent Dinner Rolls

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F Slit hot dogs to within 1/2 inch of ends; insert 3 strips of cheese into each slit.
  • Separate dough into triangles. Wrap dough triangle around each hot dog. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, cheese side up.
  • Bake at 375°F for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Substitution: If using Pillsbury® Big & Flaky large refrigerated crescent dinner rolls, use large hot dogs and bake at 350°F for 16 to 20 minutes.
  • Makes 8 sandwiches.

For New Year's, I used to make beef and cheddar pigs in a blanket, but now I like apple and Gouda for an even better flavor celebration. -Megan Weiss, Menomonie, Wisconsin

1 tube (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent rolls
1 small apple, peeled and cut into 24 thin slices
6 thin slices Gouda cheese, quartered
24 miniature smoked sausages
Honey mustard salad dressing, optional

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°. Unroll crescent dough and separate into 8 triangles; cut each lengthwise into 3 thin triangles. On the wide end of each triangle, place 1 slice apple, 1 folded piece cheese and 1 sausage; roll up tightly., Place 1 in. apart on parchment-lined baking sheets, point side down. Bake until golden brown, 10-12 minutes. If desired, serve with dressing.

Steps:

  • 1. Slit wieners to within 1/2 inch od ends; insert 3 strips of cheese in each slit. Separate dough into 8 triangles; wrap dough over wiener, keeping cheese up. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, cheese side up.
  • 2. Bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
