1 ½ cups white sugar
8 whole cloves
3 cups water
3 cinnamon sticks
1 ½ cups orange juice
1 cup lemon juice
1 gallon apple juice

Steps:

  • In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cloves, water, and cinnamon. Bring to a boil, and continue to boil for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and allow to cool for 1 hour.
  • Stir in the orange juice, lemon juice, and apple juice. Return to the heat, and boil for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove cloves and cinnamon sticks before serving.

Celebrate the holidays with a warm and spicy mug of this Crock Pot Christmas Wassail recipe. Hot Apple cider recipes can be served straight from the crock pot during the festive holiday season.

3 tea bags black tea
3 cup water
8 cups apple cider (or apple juice)
4 cups cranberry juice
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup sugar
3 medium cinnamon sticks (plus more for garnish)
12 whole cloves
3 cups whole cranberries (for garnish)
2 large navel oranges (cut into very thin slices for garnish)

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan boil the water and add the tea bags. Return to a boil and remove from the burner to steep for 5 minutes.
  • Pour the apple cider, cranberry juice, and orange juice into the slow cooker.
  • Add the steeped tea and sugar to the crock pot. Stir to dissolve the sugar.
  • Add the whole cinnamon sticks and whole cloves to the crock pot. Cover and heat on high for 2 to 4 hours.
  • Before serving remove the whole cloves and cinnamon sticks from the slow cooker.
  • Add 3 cups of cranberries to the slow cooker. Arrange the orange slices and a couple of cinnamon sticks on top of the whole cranberries for garnish.
  • Serve in a mug with whole cranberries, a slice of orange and a cinnamon stick.
  • Makes 12 servings.

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
3 (3-inch) sticks of cinnamon
1 orange, studded with whole cloves

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Combine apple cider, brown sugar, ground cloves, ground allspice, cinnamon sticks, orange, orange, and cloves in a 4- to 5-quart slow cooker.
  • Cover crock pot and cook on low for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve in mugs, garnished with star anise, if using, and enjoy.

Wassail is a tasty drink made with apple cider, fruit juice, and mulling spices. Make this hot cider recipe in the crockpot or on the stove!

1 gallon apple cider (I use Musselman's)
4 cups no pulp orange juice
46 ounces 100% pineapple juice
1 cup fresh lemon juice
1 cup packed brown sugar
12 whole cloves
10 whole cinnamon sticks
1 granny smith apple (washed, cored and quartered)
1 Honeycrisp apple (washed, cored and quartered)
1 navel orange ((washed, cored and quartered))

Steps:

  • Combine liquid ingredients in a large stock pot. Stir in brown sugar, whole cloves and cinnamon sticks.
  • Top with cut fruit, keeping the rinds and peels facing up towards the surface of the liquid.
  • Heat on medium until boiling, and then reduce to simmer. Simmer for 1-2 hours.
  • Remove fruit, cinnamon sticks and cloves. You can strain the wassail through a sieve if you prefer.
  • Ladle into heat-safe mugs, top with garnish and enjoy.

  • Combine all the ingredients in the crock pot. Heat on high heat until the mixture simmers (1-2 hours) or on low heat (3-4 hours, depending on the crock pot). Remove the cloves and cinnamon sticks before serving. Serve fresh cinnamon sticks as stirrers in individual heat-proof cups.

1/3 cup honey
2 teaspoons whole cloves
3 cinnamon sticks
One 2-inch knob ginger, peeled and sliced into coins
1 lemon, sliced
1 orange, sliced
1 cup fresh cranberries, for garnish

Steps:

  • Combine the juices, honey, cloves, cinnamon sticks, ginger, lemons and oranges in the slow cooker.
  • Cook on low 6 to 8 hours or on high 3 to 4 hours. The longer it cooks, the more the flavor from the spices will permeate the wassail.
  • If desired, remove the cinnamon, citrus slices, cloves and ginger with a slotted spoon before serving. Float the cranberries in the tops of the glasses for garnish and serve warm.
