1 -3 teaspoon hot wasabi powder, to taste
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons plum wine or 3 tablespoons sweet sherry
1 teaspoon honey, to taste
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 green onion, chopped
1/4 teaspoon sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon hot chili paste, to taste
1/3-1/2 cup plain yogurt, to taste

Steps:

  • Place all ingredients in food processor and whir for at least a minute to mix well.
  • Place in small bowl and serve as a dip (with prawns or pot stickers) or as a dressing.
  • Is also good as a baked fish marinade or mixed with sour cream to use as a dip for raw veggies.

This tasty vegan dipping sauce also makes a wonderful salad dressing. I often make a double batch so I have enough for upcoming meals like these Asian Wraps which are great for packed lunches.

3 medium oranges, peeled and seeded
2 small dates, pitted
3 tablespoons peanut butter
2¼ teaspoons low-sodium tamari
¾ teaspoon prepared wasabi paste

Steps:

  • Place the oranges, date, peanut butter, tamari, and wasabi paste in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
  • Transfer to a bowl, cover, and chill for 30 minutes before serving. The dressing will keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 4 to 5 days. Serve cold.

1 small shallot, peeled, cut in 1/2-inch pieces (1/2 ounce)
1 garlic clove, peeled
3/4 cup mirin or 3/4 cup rice wine
3/4 cup low sodium soy sauce or 3/4 cup tamari
1/4 cup seasoned rice vinegar or 1/4 cup wine vinegar
2 tablespoons dark molasses
1 1/2 tablespoons wasabi paste, prepared
1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed
1 tablespoon sesame oil (toasted sesame oil)
1 1/2 teaspoons powdered ginger
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

Steps:

  • NOTE:.
  • Mirin or rice wine, and wasabi paste are available in Asian markets or gourmet/ethnic foods section of grocery stores.
  • Place ginger, shallot and garlic in blender jar; cover blender jar.
  • Set on Low; pulse 5 times.
  • Scrape sides of jar; pulse 5 times.
  • Add remaining ingredients in order given.
  • Blend for 20 seconds.
  • Transfer to a resealable container and let stand for 30 minutes before using, to allow flavors to develop.
  • Unused portions may be refrigerated for up to a week - stir before using.
  • Tip:.
  • As a marinade, use about 1 tablespoon of marinade per portion.
  • Meats such as boneless, skinless chicken parts, pork chops, or steaks can be placed in a resealable freezer-weight bag, coated with marinade and frozen.
  • When thawed, they will be fully marinated and ready to cook.

  • 1) Salt and pepper tuna steaks. Dredge tuna on both sides with the black and white sesame seeds and briefly set aside. Heat a black, cast-iron skillet over high heat until skillet is almost smoking.
  • Add tuna and cook one minute or so on each side for rare, 2 - 3 minutes for medium rare. Remove tuna from the skillet, let rest for a few minutes before serving. Serves 2. Serve with wasabi aioli dipping sauce if desired.
