Super yummy dish that can be prepared in advance, and tossed with hot oil just before the dinner is served. Originally submitted to ThanksgivingRecipe.com.

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 pounds fresh green beans, washed and trimmed
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons walnut oil
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
ground black pepper to taste
salt to taste

Steps:

  • Place the walnuts on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Cook beans in large pot of boiling salted water until just tender, about 5 minutes. Drain. Rinse beans with cold water, and drain well. Can be prepared 6 hours ahead. Let stand at room temperature.
  • Melt butter or margarine with oil in heavy large skillet over high heat. Add beans and toss until heated through, about 4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Add walnuts and parsley and toss. Transfer to bowl and serve.

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 lb green beans (either frozen or fresh) not canned
2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp flour
1/2 c diced onion
1/4 c apple cider vinegar
1 c water
2 tsp sugar
1 Tbsp fresh chopped dill

Steps:

  • 1. Cook beans in water until tender crisp, not soft. Drain.
  • 2. Melt butter, add onions and saute until limp. Add chopped dill. Add flour and stir well to make the roux. Add one cup of water, sugar and vinegar and stir while the sauce thickens.
  • 3. Add drained beans and mix. If too thick, add a little more water. ( I found i didnt have to add additional water)
  • 4. This is a forgiving recipe. I had made it, and we talked for a while, and it reheated over a low temp just fine.

2 shallots, thinly sliced
6 garlic cloves, crushed
2 tablespoons olive oil
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
1/2 cup chopped walnuts, toasted

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425°. In a large bowl, combine green beans, shallots and garlic; drizzle with oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Transfer to two 15x10x1-in. baking pans coated with cooking spray., Roast 15-20 minutes or until tender and lightly browned, stirring occasionally. Remove from oven; stir in 1 teaspoon lemon zest. Sprinkle with walnuts and remaining lemon zest.

1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons olive oil

Steps:

  • Place beans in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil. Cook, uncovered, for 8-10 minutes or until crisp-tender; drain. , In a large skillet over medium heat; cook walnuts in oil for 1-2 minutes or until lightly browned, stirring occasionally. Add beans, garlic, seasoned salt and pepper. Cook until heated through.

2 lb fresh green beans
5 1/3 c walnuts chopped
2 Tbsp butter
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Break ends of beans off but leave the beans whole. Place green beans in a covered casserole with 2 tablespoons of water. Microwave on high till beans are crisp and tender do not over cook.3-5 minutes depending on microwave.
  • 2. Meanwhile heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add walnuts to the dry pan and toast stirring often to prevent burning. Walnuts are done when you can smell them. You may also see a little bit of oil coming from them. Remove pan from heat.
  • 3. Once beans are done drain them. Return the pan to medium heat add butter to the walnuts and then add green beans.Season with salt and pepper to taste. Toss to coat green beans in butter for about 2-3 minutes. Serve.

2 lb green beans, whole & fresh
1/2 c walnut pieces
1 medium onion, sliced in strips lenghtwise
6 slice bacon, cut in 1/2 inch pieces (easier to cut if partially frozen)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
1-2 tsp Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce (I prefer Worcestershire; use 1 tsp for soy sauce)
1 tsp Tony Chachere's seasoning or your own Creole seasoning

Steps:

  • 1. Rinse beans, drain, and snip off stems ONLY.
  • 2. Place in saucepan and cover with water. Add salt and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat and cook for 3 minutes.
  • 3. Remove from heat and IMMEDIATELY bathe in cold water. Drain. Set aside.
  • 4. On medium fire, heat large skillet. Cook bacon until fat has covered the bottom of pan.
  • 5. Add walnut pieces and onion strips to the bacon and continue cooking until the bacon is crisp and onions are beginning to turn clear.
  • 6. Add green beans to the mixture, sprinkle with soy sauce OR Worchestershire sauce, and Tony's Seasoning. Using a spatula, gently scoop and turn veggies until well blended.
  • 7. Continue cooking over LOW heat for about 5 minutes. The beans should remain firm.
  • 8. Serve on a platter, arranging beans all in the same direction. Spoon bacon, walnut, and onion mixture on the top and around the edges. Use tongs for serving.

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil and drop in the green beans. Simmer over medium-high heat until beans are just barely cooked and still bright green, about 2 minutes. Drain immediately and rinse under cold water. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add drained beans, nuts, lemon zest, lemon juice, and thyme. Continue to cook until most of the juice has evaporated, about 3 minutes. Season with salt and fresh ground pepper. Serve immediately.

I make this to take to potluck suppers,Bunko dinners with our friends & game night at our church. I have made this dish in place of Greenbean Casserole at Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. 3/4 pound(s) 3/4 pound of green beans (4 cans of drained green )beans
6 tablespoon(s) light extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup(s) packed,finely chopped,fresh mint leaves
1/2 cup(s) diced red onion
2 teaspoon(s) white wine vinegar
1/4 teaspoon(s) minced garlic
1/8 teaspoon(s) black pepper
1/2 cup(s) toasted or roasted & chopped walnuts or pecans
1/2 cup(s) crumbled feta cheese

Steps:

  • Wash beans,trim ends and cut into 2 inch sections. Steam until just tender (al dente).
  • Combine oil,mint,vinegar,salt,pepper,garlic into a blender and process until smooth.
  • Put the green beans into a shallow serving dish, sprinkle with nuts, onion and feta cheese. Toss with dressing just before serving. This is hood chilled or room temp. I usually add sliced red and yellow bell peppers. I have also used bacon pieces and halved baby tomatoes and yellow wax beans to add extra color and taste. The variations are remarkable!
