This recipe has been in my family for years. It's easy to cook, but tastes like it took hours to make! I usually make enough extra sauce to pour over mashed potatoes. YUM!

1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed French onion soup
1 ½ pounds ground beef
½ cup dry bread crumbs
1 egg
¼ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
¼ cup ketchup
¼ cup water
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon mustard powder

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix together 1/3 cup condensed French onion soup with ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, salt and black pepper. Shape into 6 oval patties.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown both sides of patties. Pour off excess fat.
  • In a small bowl, blend flour and remaining soup until smooth. Mix in ketchup, water, Worcestershire sauce and mustard powder. Pour over meat in skillet. Cover, and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

As a new vegetarian, I had to develop an old favorite, Salisbury steak, into vegetarian. You will love what I came up with!

Number Of Ingredients 11

12 oz vegetarian meat (i use yves)
1 c quick oats
3/4 c milk
1 large egg, beaten
1/4 c onion finely diced
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
1 tsp garlic powder
2 pkg brown gravy
flour
cooking oil

Steps:

  • 1. Combine quick oats, milk and egg. Allow to set a few minutes so oatmeal can absorb milk and egg.
  • 2. Next add vegetarian meat crumbles into mix. Stir add salt, pepper, garlic and onion. Mix.
  • 3. Form mix into six equal sized balls.
  • 4. Roll ball in flour coating well. Then flatten into patty. Add more flour if necessary. (This helps keep burger from crumbling!!)
  • 5. Place in frying pan over medium heat. Fry until golden brown. (Make sure when you flip burger there is enough oil. If there isn't, add more!) Place in dish.
  • 6. Follow directions on packets of brown gravy mix. Cover the patties well. Enjoy!

  • Add the beans, 1 egg, salt, pepper, parsley, green onions and mushrooms to a large bowl. Use a potato masher or a fork to make a chunky paste of everything, taking care to leave some beans whole. Place the bowl in the fridge.
  • Preheat a large skillet with the olive oil over medium. Meanwhile, grab 3 small bowls. Add the flour to one, the panko to another, and the egg to the last (add a tablespoon of water and beat the egg). Season the flour and panko with more salt and pepper if you want.
  • Pull the bean mixture out of the fridge. Divide it into four, and make patties that are about 1/2 inch thick. Dredge each into the flour (coating both sides lightly), then the egg, then back in the flour for a final light coating.
  • Cook the "steaks" in the preheated skillet for about 8 minutes, turning them halfway. Once they're golden brown on both sides, remove them to a plate to rest while you make the gravy.
