VEGAN HAWAIIAN PITA PIZZAS



Vegan Hawaiian Pita Pizzas image

These vegan Hawaiian pita pizzas are quick, delicious and nutritious. Topped with tempeh bacon, pineapple and peppers, and drizzled with a little BBQ sauce, they're a real crowd pleaser!

Olive oil cooking spray
1 teaspoon coconut oil
4 slices tempeh bacon (see Cook's Note)
2 whole-wheat pitas
4 tablespoons marinara sauce
4 slices tempeh bacon, cooked and chopped (see Cook's Note)
1/4 cup sliced pineapple
1/4 cup red bell peppers, chopped
1/4 cup green bell peppers, chopped
1/4 cup red onion, sliced
1/2 cup shredded vegan mozzarella, such as Daiya
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Spray a baking sheet or pizza stone with olive oil spray.
  • Heat the oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the tempeh bacon in a single layer and fry until cooked through, about 2 minutes per side. Cut into 1/2-inch squares and set aside.
  • Place the pitas on the prepared baking sheet or pizza stone. Spread each with 2 tablespoons marinara sauce. Sprinkle the cheese over the sauce on each pita then top with the tempeh bacon, pineapple, peppers and onions.
  • Bake until the cheese is melted, 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Drizzle each pita pizza with 1 tablespoon of the barbecue sauce. Slice, serve and enjoy!

Pizza is one of the classic comfort foods, don't you think? And so that you do not have to miss the Italian classic, I share with you this vegan Hawaiian Pizza. We prepare a delicious pizza dough, pizza sauce, cheese sauce and top it with fruity sweet pineapple pieces, and smoky coconut bacon or smoked tofu instead of ham. This vegetarian pizza is perfect for Pizza Friday and other days as dinner.

1 pizza dough
1 pizza sauce
1 vegan cheese sauce or vegan cheese
1 can of pineapple or fresh pineapple
1 pck tofu firm or 80 g coconut flakes or ready-made smoked tofu (nothing else needed)
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp smoked paprika

Steps:

  • First you prepare your pizza dough and your pizza sauce as well as the cheese sauce. You will also need to prepare the coconut bacon. Mix the ingredients and bake it for around 7-10 min at 350°F (180°C). Make sure it doesn't burn. Next, roll out the pizza dough and spread the pizza sauce on it and then spread the cheese sauce. Now take the pineapple and cut it into pieces. Spread them on the pizza and sprinkle them with coconut bacon or diced smoked tofu. Bake the pizza at 400°F (200°C) for about 20 minutes or until the desired degree of browning is reached

  • Sift the flour into a mixing bowl and add the salt and instant yeast. Pour in the warm water (not hot) and mix into a big ball of dough. Flour your hands liberally and then begin to knead the dough, adding flour in at regular intervals while you knead the dough to stop it sticking to your hands. Knead for 4-5 minutes. At the end the dough should be very tacky but not at all inclined to stick to your hands anymore. Place the dough back into the bowl, cover with a towel and leave to rise for 1 hour.
  • Cut out two pieces of parchment paper to roughly the same size as your pizza stone, and then place your pizza stone into the cold oven. Switch on the oven and turn it to 460°F (240°C) and allow the oven and pizza stone to heat together for 1 hour.
  • When the dough has risen after an hour, divide it into two balls. Dust some flour onto the first sheet of parchment paper that you cut out, place the ball of dough on top and then roll it out with a rolling pin to the edges of the parchment paper. The dough may be inclined to keep pulling back, just keep rolling it out.
  • Mix your tomato sauce ingredients together and spread half the sauce over the top of the rolled out pizza dough and spread it out using the back of a spoon.
