GYRO MEAT RECIPE

Gyro Meat Recipe image

Make doner kababs or gyros at home, with this gyro meat recipe. This gyro meat recipe is so simple to make, but it authentic and turns out delicious. If you've ever wanted to make restaurant-style gyro meat at a home, you've found the best gyro meat recipe ever.

Provided by URVASHI PITRE

Categories     Main Courses

Time 1h10m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 pound Lean Ground Beef
1 pound ground pork (or ground lamb)
1 Red Onion. chopped (rough chopped)
6 cloves Garlic
2 teaspoons Ground Marjoram
2 teaspoons dried rosemary
2 teaspoons Dried Oregano
2 teaspoons Kosher Salt
2 teaspoons Ground Black Pepper

Steps:

  • Place onions, garlic into a large food processor and process until finely chopped but not liquefied.
  • Add meat and all the seasonings and grind for another 3-5 minutes. Do not skip this step. If you do, it will be like ground beef with some weird seasonings in it. Grind it until it's a big, huge, sticky mess that you wonder how you will ever clean up.
  • Since writing this recipe I've discovered a faster way to do this, which is to use your stand mixer with the paddle. Paddle the living daylights out of the meat with the spices until it's a sticky mess. This is a lot easier to clean up than a blender, and the end result is the same. So use whatever you have that works for you.
  • Put into a foil pan, and smooth out the top, and bake at 350 for 60 mins, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 175-180
  • Take it out of the oven and drain all the fat.
  • Cover it with foil and then place something heavy on it to compress it. I put a cast iron skillet on top and then carefully placed 3 cans of beans on top of the skillet to compress it.
  • Let it rest for 30 mins and then slice into thin slices.
  • Gyros!

THESE GREEK GYRO-STYLE TURKEY BURGERS TAKE 20 MINUTES

These Greek Gyro-Style Turkey Burgers Take 20 Minutes image

Riffing off the flavor of a Greek gyro, these turkey burgers cook up fast in a cast-iron skillet or grill pan. Lemony, olive-studded yogurt sauce adds more Middle Eastern-inspired flavor and is a tasty alternative to ketchup and mustard. Piled high with arugula, cucumber, and red onion, these are filling enough to be called dinner. Or, round out the meal with roasted potato fries. For the juiciest burgers, go for 93% lean ground turkey (a combination of white and dark meat).

Provided by Adam Dolge

Time 20m

Yield Serves 4 (serving size: 1 burger)

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 pound 93% lean ground turkey
1/4 cup canola mayonnaise
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper, divided
Cooking spray
1/3 cup plain whole-milk Greek yogurt
1/3 cup chopped kalamata olives (about 1 1/2 oz.)
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
4 whole-wheat hamburger buns
2 cups arugula (about 1 oz.)
1/2 cup sliced cucumber (about 3 1/4 oz.)
1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion

Steps:

  • Using clean hands, combine turkey, mayonnaise, oregano, cumin, salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Shape mixture into 4 equal patties.
  • Heat a large cast-iron skillet or grill pan over high. Lightly coat skillet with cooking spray, and add turkey patties. Cook until a meat thermometer inserted in thickest portion registers 165°F, 4 to 5 minutes per side.
  • Stir together yogurt, olives, lemon juice, and remaining 1/8 teaspoon pepper in a small bowl. Spread yogurt mixture evenly on cut sides of top and bottom buns. Divide arugula evenly among bottom halves of buns; top evenly with cooked patties, cucumber, and red onion. Cover with top halves of buns and serve.

GUILT-FREE GROUND TURKEY GYROS

Guilt-Free Ground Turkey Gyros image

I love Greek gyros sandwiches, but I don't like to eat lamb and it's not the healthiest food in the world. This recipe satisfies my craving. You can eat these on pita bread, but it's just as good on any other bread in place of deli meat. Serve it with tzatziki sauce, Greek yogurt, or sour cream.

Provided by rpgaymer

Categories     Meatloaf

Time 40m

Yield 1 gyros meatloaf, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 lb lean ground turkey
1/2 cup oatmeal
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/8 teaspoon allspice

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Put all of the ingredients in a bowl, and spend a few minutes kneading the resulting mixture with your hands so everything is combined well.
  • Pour the mixture onto a lightly oiled 9x13 pan. Smash it down with your hands a bit until it looks like a very large hamburger patty.
  • Bake it for 35 minutes.
  • Remove, then cut the meat into thin slices and serve. If you want a crispier, more authentic gyros texture, lay the sliced meat down on the pan and place in the broiler for 5 more minutes.

TURKEY GYROS

Turkey Gyros image

Greek seasoning, feta cheese and dill-cucumber sauce give this gyro an authentic taste. It was my family's introduction to how really good pita bread can be. Instead of feta cheese, we'll sprinkle on cheddar or Monterey Jack if we have it. -Donna Garvin, Glens Falls, New York

EASY, NO FUSS THANKSGIVING TURKEY

Easy, No Fuss Thanksgiving Turkey image

Foolproof Thanksgiving Turkey recipe that packs all of the flavor and juiciness you expect from the perfect roasted turkey, with none of the stress! Step by step for how to cook the perfect turkey.

Provided by Lauren Allen

Categories     Main Course

Time 3h50m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 12-20 pound turkey
1 onion (, peeled and quartered)
1 lemon (, quartered)
1 apple ((your favorite kind), quartered)
.75 ounce container fresh rosemary (*)
.75 ounce container fresh thyme (*)
.75 ounce container fresh sage (*)
1 cup unsalted butter (, softened)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
6-8 cloves garlic (, minced)
fresh chopped herbs

Steps:

  • If the turkey is frozen: Thaw in the fridge, 24 hours for every 5 pounds of Turkey. I like to give myself 1 extra day, just to be safe.
  • Remove the thawed turkey from the fridge 1 hour before roasting, to let it come to room temperature.
  • Adjust your oven rack so the turkey will sit in the center of the oven. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
  • Make the herb butter by combining room temperature butter, minced garlic, salt, pepper, one tablespoon fresh chopped rosemary, one tablespoon fresh chopped thyme, and half a tablespoon of fresh chopped sage. (You'll use the remaining fresh herbs for stuffing inside the cavity of the turkey)
  • Remove turkey from packaging and remove the neck and giblets from the inside the cavities of the bird. (Reserve them for gravy, if you want, or discard them). Pat the turkey very dry with paper towels.
  • Season the cavity of the turkey with salt and pepper. Stuff it with the quartered lemon, onion and apple and leftover herbs.
  • Use your fingers to loosen and lift the skin above the breasts (on the top of the turkey) and smooth a few tablespoons of the herb butter underneath.
  • Tuck the wings of the turkey underneath the turkey and set the turkey on a roasting rack inside a roasting pan*.
  • Microwave the remaining herb butter mixture for 30 seconds (it doesn't need to be completely melted--just really softened). Use a basting brush to brush the remaining herb butter all over the outside of the turkey, legs and wings.
  • Roast at 325 degrees F for about 13-15 minutes per pound, or until internal temperature (inserted on middle of thigh and breast) reaches about 165 degrees.
  • (I remove the turkey from the oven once it reaches 160 degrees. Then, I tent it with foil, and let it rest on the counter. It will continue cooking under the foil, to reach 165 degrees F.)
  • ***Check the turkey about halfway through cooking, and once the skin gets golden brown, cover the top of the turkey with tinfoil, to protect the breast meat from overcooking. Alternately, you could start cooking the turkey with it tented in foil, then during the last hour or so of cooking you can take the foil off to let the turkey brown.
  • Allow turkey to rest for 20-30 minutes before carving. https://tastesbetterfromscratch.com/how-to-carve-a-turkey/
  • Reserve any drippings and juice remaining in your roasting pan to make turkey gravy.
