SOUTHERN BAKED SMOTHERED TURKEY WINGS RECIPE SLOW BAKED IN THE OVEN AND COVERED IN CREAMY GRAVY FULL OF SAUTÉED FRESH ONIONS, PEPPERS AND CELERY. A TRUE SOUTHERN, SOUL FOOD FAVORITE

4 lb turkey wings
olive oil
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon poultry seasoning
1 tablespoon parsley
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons cajun seasoning
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 celery sitcks (diced)
1/2 green bell pepper (diced)
1/2 white onion diced
mushrooms (dice (optional))
6-8 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups chicken broth
1/2 cup whole milk (warmed)
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream (warmed)
salt (pepper, parsley, onion powder, garlic powder, to taste.)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 275 F.
  • Combine seasonings.
  • Brush wings evenly with olive oil to coat.( Could also use melted butter)
  • Sprinkle wings generously with seasonings, massaging seasonings into wings. Add more olive oil to help distribute the seasoning if needed. (use as much of the seasoning as desired)
  • *optional step for more flavor* Cover wings and let marinate for 4 hours or overnight.
  • Place the wings in a roasting pan and over tightly with foil.
  • Bake for 2 1/2 hours.
  • *optional step for a crisp skin* Uncover for the last few minutes and broil both sides to crisp up the skin.
  • Drain the excess juices from pan (you could also use some of the juices for broth if desired.)
  • Line the pan with foil and place turkey into the pan. Set aside.
  • To make the gravy, melt butter in deep skillet.
  • Add chopped veggies and sautéed until almost tender.
  • Whisk in flour and cook over medium heat until flour is golden and no longer has a raw flour taste.
  • Whisk in chicken broth, milk and heavy cream.
  • Simmer until gravy has thickened to your liking.
  • Pour the gravy over the turkey, cover and bake for 45 minutes to an hour.
  • Serve immediately with rice.

2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
water, or as needed to cover
1 (10 ounce) package saffron rice (such as Mahatma®)

Steps:

  • Place turkey wings, cream of mushroom soup, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and seasoned salt into a 6-quart slow cooker. Pour in enough water to cover; stir ingredients. Cook on High for 6 hours or on Low for 8 hours.
  • Stir rice into mixture; continue to cook until rice is tender, 15 to 20 more minutes.

These deliciously tender baked turkey wings are seasoned to perfection! This is a perfect holiday dish that's easy to make and will please the whole crowd.

2.5 lbs turkey wings (cut into sections if bought whole)
1 large lemon (cut into 4 wedges)
2 tbsp olive oil (you can substitute it with vegetable oil)
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
2 tsp seasoning salt (or salt free seasoning)
1 tsp minced onions
1 tsp minced garlic
1 1/2 tbsp paprika
2 tsp parsley flakes
2 tsp poultry seasoning
2 1/2 cup turkey or chicken broth (or even water)

Steps:

  • Clean the turkey wings, then rub all surfaces of the wings with the lemon wedges
  • Next, place the wings into a large bowl or dish, and drizzle the wings with the olive oil.
  • Sprinkle all of the seasoning onto the wings, then rub the seasonings all over the wings.
  • Remove the wings from the bowl and Place them into a oiled bake dish.
  • In the bowl that the wings were in, there will be leftover seasonings. Pour 2 1/2 cups of broth or water into the bowl, stir, then pour the broth or water into the bake dish.
  • Cover the bake dish, and cook the wings in the oven on 350 F, for about 1 &1/2 hours to 2 hours
  • Periodically remove the wings from the oven, and baste.

1 small onion, chopped
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 ½ cups water, divided
1 (10.75 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Place turkey wings and onion in a casserole dish; sprinkle seasoned salt, poultry seasoning, black pepper, and garlic on both sides of each wing. Pour 1/2 cup water into the casserole dish. Cover casserole dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until browned, 1 hour.
  • Stir cream of mushroom soup and 1 cup water together in a bowl; pour over turkey wings into casserole dish and return to oven, uncovered.
  • Continue baking until brown and tender, 1 hour.

This is a very bland dish so it is important to serve the condiments if you want more kick. I posted this originally for ZWT 4. Serve with bowls of condiments on the side--chopped cilantro, minced green onion, or peanuts. soy sauce, and any hot chili sauce.

2/3 cup long-grain white rice, uncooked
12 -16 ounces turkey wings
6 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 inches piece peeled fresh ginger, one chunk
1/2 cup carrot, sliced
1/2 cup celery, sliced
1/2 cup mushroom, sliced
low sodium soy sauce, to taste
sesame oil, to taste
1/4 cup cilantro or 1/4 cup parsley, for garnish
1/4 cup green onion, minced for garnish
1/3 cup peanuts, chopped or 1/3 cup cashews

Steps:

  • Put slow cooker liner into slow cooker.
  • Place the rice, turkey wings, water, salt, ginger, carrots, celery, and mushrooms into the slow cooker.
  • Stir well.
  • Cover and cook on HIGH for 1 hour, then reduce the temperature to LOW and cook for 6 to 8 hours, until creamy, thick, and translucent white in consistency.
  • Remove and discard the ginger.
  • Remove the turkey wing and place on a plate to cool for 15 minutes.
  • Remove and discard the skin.
  • Pick the meat off the bones and discard the bones; return the meat to the soup.
  • Taste test; add soy sauce and sesame oil.
  • Keep WARM until ready to serve, with bowls of cilantro, green onion, and peanuts on the side for garnish choices.

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oil. Season wings with salt,pepper,garlic and paprika. Brown in oil. Place in baking dish with tight fitting lid,add water or chicken broth about halfway up the wings. Bake at 350 deg 2 hrs or until wings are tender. Remove from dish,scrape up the bits on bottom of pan,add enough water or broth to measure double the amount of rice you're using. For instance if you're cooking 1 c of rice,use 2 cups of liquid. Add salt ,garlic powder and pepper to taste Add wings back to same pan on top of rice,cover,cook additional 30 minutes until rice is cooked.

  • Meanwhile, lay all the aromatics in the bottom of a large roasting pan. Drizzle with about 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and season with a little kosher salt and black pepper. Toss everything together, and arrange in an even layer.
  • Place the seasoned wings on top of the bed of aromatics, making sure the wings are in an even layer. It’s ok if a few overlap one another. Cover the roasting pan tightly with foil and place in the preheated oven on the lower-middle oven rack. Roast for 90 minutes at 325 degrees F.
