CILANTRO LIME GRILLED TOFU



Cilantro Lime Grilled Tofu image

Flavorful tofu, perfect for summer grilling. This is my absolute favorite way to eat tofu. The marinade is delicious and extremely flavorful. Serve with grilled vegetables or in a tortilla.

1 (14 ounce) package firm tofu
¼ cup lime juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
5 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons chili powder
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
salt and black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Place the block of tofu onto a plate and place another plate on top. Set a 3 to 5 pound weight on top (a container filled with water works well). Press the tofu for 20 to 30 minutes, then drain off and discard the accumulated liquid. Slice the tofu lengthwise into 4 thick slabs or cut into cubes and thread on skewers. Place tofu pieces or skewers on a plate.
  • Whisk together the lime juice, olive oil, cilantro, garlic, chili powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper in a bowl. Brush the tofu with the marinade. Cover the plate with plastic wrap, and marinate tofu in the refrigerator for 2 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat, and lightly oil the grate. Grill the tofu until almost blackened in spots, brushing occasionally with the marinade, about 10 to 15 minutes.

16 ounces firm tofu
1 lime, juice of
1/2 lime, zest of
2 tablespoons oil
2 garlic cloves
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons dried ancho chile powder
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon dried chipotle powder

Steps:

  • Cut tofu into slices 2"long by 1/2" wide.
  • Combine remaining ingredients in a small pot and bring to to a boil.
  • Simmer for 5 min, remove from heat and pour over tofu. Marinade in glass bowl for several hours or preferably overnight.
  • Pour off marinade and bake tofu slices for 15 minutes in 350 degree oven, basting with remaining marinade each five minutes.
  • Serve over rice, or mix with noodles and remaining marinade.

1 (14 -16 ounce) package extra firm tofu, drained
peanut oil, for grilling
1 cup sweet chili sauce
3 scallions, sliced diagonally
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 thinly sliced jalapeno (optional)
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoons lime juice

Steps:

  • Slice tofu in half lengthwise, then cut each half into two long strips, approximately 1/2-inch thick.
  • Mix remaining ingredients in a small bowl.
  • Lay tofu strips in a shallow pan and pour marinade over, turning tofu to coat. Marinade for at least 1 hour, or as long as overnight.
  • Heat oil in grill or nonstick pan over high heat. Sear tofu on each side until browned and heated through, approximately 2-3 minutes per side.

This was originally for T-bone steaks but it works just as nicely with deer. The rub helps minimize the 'gamey' taste and the butter just makes them delicious.

½ cup butter, softened
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
2 tablespoons steak seasoning
1 tablespoon ancho chile powder
4 (1/2 pound) venison steaks

Steps:

  • Whip together the butter, lime juice, and cilantro in a small bowl until well combined. Transfer the butter mixture onto a large piece of plastic wrap, gently wrap and form the butter into a log. Freeze until ready to use.
  • Prepare a grill for medium-high heat.
  • Mix together the steak seasoning and ancho chile powder in a small bowl. Rub the seasoning blend onto both sides of the venison steaks.
  • Grill the steaks to preferred doneness, 5 to 8 minutes per side for medium. Top each steak with a slice of the lemon-cilantro butter to serve.
