SIMPLE TUNA MELT



Simple Tuna Melt image

This is a fast and delicious tuna melt that I've been making for years!

1 (5 ounce) can tuna, drained and flaked
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
2 slices whole wheat bread
2 teaspoons chopped dill pickle
¼ cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Place bread slices in the oven to toast while it preheats, and while you make the tuna salad.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the tuna, mayonnaise, salt, balsamic vinegar, mustard and dill pickle until well blended. Remove bread from the oven, and pile the tuna mixture onto one slice. Sprinkle cheese over the other slice of bread.
  • Bake for 7 minutes in the preheated oven, or until cheese is melted and tuna is heated through. Place the cheese side of the sandwich on top of the tuna side. Cut in half and serve immediately.

1/4 cup margarine
1/4 cup flour
2 cups milk
1 can drained tuna fish
1 cup frozen peas (or to taste)
salt and pepper
bread (for toasting)

Steps:

  • Thaw frozen peas in a collendar.
  • Melt the margarine in a saucepan.
  • Add the flour and blend.
  • Add the milk, stirring constantly to prevent clumping and stir until creamy.
  • Add the tuna, peas, salt and pepper and warm through.
  • As the tuna is warming, toast bread.
  • After toasted, cut in triangles and spoon tuna mixture over the toast.

3 eggs
¼ pound processed cheese food, diced
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1 (5 ounce) can tuna, drained
2 tablespoons minced onion
½ cup creamy salad dressing, e.g. Miracle Whip ™
3 tablespoons chopped stuffed green olives
4 hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Place eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Cover and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, cool, peel and chop. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine eggs, processed cheese food, sweet pickle relish and tuna. Stir in the onion, creamy salad dressing and green olives. Mix thoroughly.
  • Spoon the mixture onto the hamburger buns, then wrap in aluminum foil.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. or until cheese is thoroughly melted.

My mom made this tuna casserole through the years...a delicious family dish, but good for any occasion. I often serve it for a luncheon along with garlic bread and a salad. It's quick and easy to prepare, freezes well and makes a complete meal.

1 medium onion, chopped
2 teaspoons butter
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 cup 2% milk
2 cups cooked wide egg noodles
1 can (6 ounces) tuna, drained and flaked
2/3 cup frozen peas, thawed
1/4 cup crushed cornflakes

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, saute onion in butter until tender. Stir in the flour, salt and pepper until blended. Gradually add milk. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Stir in the noodles, tuna and peas., Transfer to a greased 1-qt. baking dish. Sprinkle with cornflakes. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 30-35 minutes or until bubbly around the edges.

1 can (6 ounces) tuna, drained and flaked
3 hard-boiled large eggs, chopped
1/3 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 hot dog buns, split

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, combine the first seven ingredients. Spread about 1/3 cup on bottoms of buns; replace tops. Wrap in foil. Bake at 400° for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.

I just came up with this one night after discovering my fiance doesn't like tuna. I just had to try to convert him... and I did! I didn't measure, just kind of dumped stuff in, so I'm estimating on some measurements. Feel free to adjust mayo, breadcrumbs, etc. for desired texture. The quantity can be 2 BIG buns or 4 regular sandwiches.

1 (6 ounce) can of premium chunk tuna in water
1 stalk celery, chopped finely
1/8 cup onion, chopped finely (optional)
1 teaspoon tartar sauce
1 -2 tablespoon mayonnaise
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 -4 slices American cheese, 3/4 oz each,depending on size of sandwiches chosen (optional)

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients (except cheese) in small/medium mixing bowl.
  • Mix well.
  • Taste test for seasoning- make any adjustments and mix well.
  • Spread on both sides of each bun.
  • Put one slice of cheese on each sandwich.
  • Place top bun back onto bottom bun (the cheese is in the middle this way!).
  • Wrap each sandwich individually in aluminum foil and place on cookie sheet.
  • Bake about 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • FYI: This is very cheesy, so you may want to use 1/2 slice per sandwich instead- or even ditch the cheese altogether- just a matter of preference.

1/4 lb velveta cheese, cubed
3 hard boiled eggs, chopped
1 Tbsp green bell pepper, diced
2 Tbsp red onion, finely chopped
3 Tbsp black olives, chopped (optional)
1/2 c miracle whip or mayo (your preference)
1 pkg 12 hot dog buns

Steps:

  • 1. Mix up your tuna filling earlier in the day. This gives it time to season.
  • 2. Now your ready to make the sandwiches. Spread the tuna filling on hot dog buns and wrap with aluminum foil. Place in refrigerator until ready to heat.
  • 3. Preheat oven to 400'F. Place wrapped buns on cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes. This heats the filling, melts the cheese and gets the buns toasty.
