I wanted to capture the flavor of cheese biscuits from a popular restaurant. So I took my favorite buttermilk biscuit recipe and added to it.

Time 20m

Yield 10 biscuits.

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2/3 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup canola oil
Additional Parmesan cheese, optional

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the first five ingredients. Add cheeses. , In a small bowl, combine buttermilk and oil. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Drop by 1/4 cupfuls 2 in. apart onto a greased baking sheet. Sprinkle with additional Parmesan cheese if desired. , Bake at 450° for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.

2 cups self rising flour (for all purpose flour, see notes below)
1/2 cup butter, grated
1 cup milk (whole or 2%)

Steps:

  • Using a medium-sized bowl, add 2 cups of self rising flour. Unwrap stick of cold butter and grate butter over the flour, then stir to evenly distribute the butter.
  • Preheat oven to 450ºF.
  • Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients (flour and butter). Pour the milk in the well and stir, just until the dough comes together and way from the walls of the bowl - about 30 seconds. For the flaky, tender biscuits, do not over mix.
  • Grease or line baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a tablespoon or ice cream scoop, scoop batter onto the baking sheet. This recipe makes 8 - 10 biscuits.
  • Bake for 13-15 minutes, until golden in color. Serve warm.

A super simple recipe for Garlic Cheese Drop Biscuits. Ready in under 25 minutes, no mixer, no rolling pin, no biscuit cutters required! These simple drop biscuits make a great quick and easy side dish for any dinner!

4 Tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
1 cup all-purpose flour ((125g))
1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
½ cup buttermilk ((118ml))
½-1 cup sharp shredded cheddar cheese (use a thick shred, not finely shredded (55-110g))
2 Tablespoons salted butter (or unsalted, just add a dash of salt)
⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon dried parsley

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450F (230C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • Melt your butter and set it aside so it can begin to cool.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder.
  • In a separate bowl (or in a large measuring cup) whisk slightly cooled butter into buttermilk (it's OK if the butter begins to re-solidify or the mixture looks curdled).
  • Pour buttermilk mixture into flour mixture and stir until just-combined.
  • Use a spoon or spatula to gently stir cheese into batter until incorporated.
  • Using a pair of spoons, drop batter by heaping spoonfuls (about 3 Tbsp in size) onto prepared baking sheet, spacing at least 2" apart.
  • Transfer to 450F oven and bake for 10-12 minutes or until light golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, prepare topping by whisking together butter, garlic powder, and dried parsley.
  • When biscuits are finished baking, brush generously with butter mixture (use a pastry brush, or if you don't have one simply spoon some of the butter on top of each biscuit).
  • Serve warm.

½ teaspoon garlic salt

¼ cup shortening
¾ cup milk
¼ cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  • In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, chives, garlic salt and salt. Cut in the shortening until the mixture has only small lumps. Add milk and cheese and stir until moistened. Drop dough by heaping spoonfuls onto prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden.

Steps:

Add all cheeses and toss to coat well. Gradually mix in buttermilk. Drop dough by 1/4 cupfuls onto prepared sheet, spacing 2 inches apart.Bake biscuits until golden on top, about 16 minutes. Transfer to platter. Serve warm or at room temperature.
