Wanted a new twist on braised pork shoulder so paired 2 simple ingredients to create a yummy sauce to a browned roast...there were no leftovers! Great served with rice or noodles with cooked carrots and broccoli.

1 (4.5 pound) pork shoulder roast
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
2 tablespoons cooking oil
1 clove garlic, minced
½ cup teriyaki sauce
½ cup orange marmalade
½ cup water

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F (135 degrees C).
  • Heat oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Sprinkle roast on both sides with seasoned salt. Place into the hot oil and brown for 2 to 3 minutes per side. Add garlic and saute just until slightly browned, about 1 minute. Remove from the heat and drain excess oil.
  • Mix teriyaki sauce, marmalade, and water together in a small bowl; pour over browned roast. Cover with the lid.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until roast is fork-tender, 2 to 3 hours. Shred roast with 2 forks and pour teriyaki juices over.

1 boneless pork shoulder butt roast (3 pounds)
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 cup finely chopped onion
1 cup reduced-sodium teriyaki sauce, divided
1/2 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
8 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
1 can (20 ounces) sliced pineapple, drained

Steps:

  • Cut roast in half. In a large skillet, brown roast in oil; place in a 5-qt. slow cooker. Add the onion, 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce and pineapple juice. Cover and cook on low for 7-9 hours or until meat is tender., Remove roast; set aside. In a small bowl, combine flour and remaining teriyaki sauce until smooth; stir into cooking juices. Cover and cook on high for 30-40 minutes or until thickened., Shred meat with two forks; return to the slow cooker and heat through. Spoon 1/2 cup onto each bun; top with a pineapple slice.

1/2 cup rice vinegar
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup + 2 teaspoons agave nectar or honey
1/4 cup canola oil
2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger
4 garlic cloves (minced)
2 1 pounds each pork tenderloins, fat trimmed
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup water
toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
sliced green onions (for garnish)

Steps:

  • In the bowl of a slow cooker, whisk together the rice vinegar, water, soy sauce, honey, canola oil, ginger and garlic.
  • Add the pork tenderloins and turn to coat with the sauce.
  • Cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, or until the pork is very tender and falls apart when pulled with a fork.
  • Transfer the pork to a cutting board. Shred, using two forks or your fingers (if cool enough).
  • Pour the sauce into a small saucepan. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water, then add to the sauce.
  • Bring the sauce to a boil over medium heat, whisking frequently. Cook until the sauce is slightly thickened, 7 to 8 minutes.
  • Return the pork to the slow cooker to keep warm and toss with sauce.
  • Serve over rice or on whole wheat hamburger buns. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions, if desired.

2-3 pound pork shoulder roast
1 medium onion (diced)
1 bottle Teriyaki Sauce ((I prefer Kikkoman Teriyaki Baste and Glaze sauce))
1 can pineapple sliced (undrained)
buns
Optional toppings: provolone cheese slices, jalapenos, red onion slices

Steps:

  • Spray slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Place roast in slow cooker.
  • Open can of pineapple slices and drain juice INTO the slow cooker over the roast. Pour 1/2 CUP of the teriyaki sauce (save the rest for later) over the roast. Sprinkle the onions over the top of the roast.
  • Cover and cook on low for 7-9 hours (or on high for 5-6 hours). Shred the pork with two forks when finished cooking.
  • Pour the rest of the teriyaki sauce over the shredded meat (add as little or as much as you want for flavor). Spoon meat onto each bun and top with a pineapple slice and other toppings as wanted.

  • Prepare the pork shoulder for roasting. Preheat your oven to 350F/177C. Measure out all of the ingredients for the broth: water, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame seed oil and mirin.   • Strain the cooking broth through a fine-mesh strainer. Skim off any impurities and fat from the top. Discard pieces of ginger, garlic and impurities. Pour the broth into a sauce pan and bring to a simmer of medium heat. Simmer for a few minutes to thicken the sauce. Reserve ¼ cup of the sauce for later. Pour prepared sauce over the pulled pork and toss to coat all of the meat.
