Skip the greasy mess and bake these healthier churros rather than frying them in oil. The cinnamon-sugar-dusted classic Mexican dessert comes out of the oven crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside.

1 cup water
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a baking mat.
  • Combine water, butter, brown sugar and salt in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat until the butter is melted and the mixture starts to boil. Remove from heat. Using a wooden spoon, stir in flour until completely incorporated and the mixture starts to pull away from the sides of the pan. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  • Whisk eggs and vanilla in a small bowl. Add to the dough and stir until completely incorporated. Transfer the dough to a pastry bag fitted with a 3/4-inch open-star tip. (Alternatively, if using a 1-quart sealable plastic bag, fill it with dough and seal almost completely, leaving a small opening for air to escape from the top as you squeeze. Snip off a bottom corner, making a 3/4-inch-wide opening.) Pipe the dough onto the prepared baking sheet to make 12 churros, each 4 inches long.
  • Bake the churros, turning once halfway, until puffed and browned, 25 to 30 minutes.
  • Combine sugar and cinnamon on a shallow plate. Roll the hot churros in the mixture and transfer to a wire rack to cool for 10 minutes.

Baked Churros are so easy to make with no frying! They taste just as good as a fried churro but are healthier and easier to make. We loved dipping them in chocolate ganache!

1 cup water
1 cup unsalted butter (DIVIDED - ONLY 1/2 CUP GOES IN DOUGH)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup all purpose flour
3 large eggs
2 cups granulated sugar
2 tablespoons cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Line three cookie sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • Place water, 1/2 cup butter (sliced into tablespoons), and salt in a large saucepan. Heat over medium heat until butter is melted and stir occasionally until mixture boils.
  • Turn off the heat and stir in the flour. A thick paste will form. Make sure to do this off the heat and off the stove, so that the mixture can cool as you stir it.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition (work fast to avoid cooking the eggs). It'll seem like the eggs don't want to mix in but they will.
  • Place the churro batter in a large pastry bag fitted with a star or 1M tip.
  • Pipe churros in desired size and shapes onto cookie sheets. (This recipe makes approximately 60 3-inch long churros or 25 7-inch long churros.
  • Spray the churros with nonstick cooking spray. This will help them brown.
  • Bake for 20-30 minutes (depending on size), rotating pans as needed, until churros are baked through and lightly golden.
  • Cool slightly, or until you can handle them.
  • Melt remaining 1/2 cup butter in a medium size bowl. Mix sugar and cinnamon in another bowl. Dip the churros in the butter then roll in cinnamon sugar. Serve immediately with dipping sauce.
  • To make chocolate ganache: place 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream and 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave safe cup or bowl. Heat for 1 minute, then whisk until smooth.
  • To make caramel dipping sauce: place 20 unwrapped caramel squares and 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream in a microwave safe cup or bowl. Heat for 1 minute, then stir until smooth, reheating as needed. Stir in 1/4 teaspoon kosher or sea salt if desired.

1/2 cup water
1/2 cup whole milk
8 Tbsp unsalted butter
1 tsp granulated sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
4 large eggs (cold)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
vegetable oil or canola oil (to fry churros)

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup milk, 8 Tbsp butter, 1 tsp sugar, and 1/4 tsp salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently.
  • Remove from heat and immediately stir in 1 cup flour all at once with a wooden spoon. Once incorporated, put back on the heat and stir constantly another 2 minutes to release extra moisture and partially cook the flour. The dough should come together in a smooth ball and a thin film will form on the bottom of the pan.
  • Transfer to a large mixing bowl and use an electric mixer to beat on medium speed 2 minutes to cool the mixture slightly. Add 4 eggs, adding 1 at a time and allowing each egg to fully incorporate between additions. Beat until dough is smooth and forms a thick ribbon when pulled up.
  • Heat 2" deep vegetable oil to 370˚F. Keep the oil between 350-370˚F while frying.
  • Transfer dough to a pastry bag fitted with a large open star tip (Wilton 1M). Pipe 6" lengths into hot oil and cut with scissors. Fry 1 1/2 minutes per side or until golden brown then flip with tongs and fry another 1 1/2 minutes. Fry in batches, about 5-6 churros at a time. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate then roll in cinnamon sugar.

  • Transfer mixture to a piping bag with a 5 point, or star, tip.
  • Pipe out thick 3-inch (8 cm) strips of churro batter onto a baking sheet covered with parchment, using a knife to release each piece from the piping tip, if needed.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, then broil until golden brown.
  • Dredge each churro in melted butter, then cinnamon sugar.
  • Serve with melted chocolate if desired.

Easy Baked Churros are so simple to make and are impossible to resist. Flaky puff pastry dough baked to perfection, rolled in butter and cinnamon and sugar, and take less than 15 minutes to make. These churros will be a hit with your your family.

1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
6 Tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place one sheet of thawed puff pastry on a cutting board you can thaw pastry dough by placing one folded sheet in the microwave for 30 seconds, turnover and microwave for another 30 seconds*. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife cut pastry dough in half lengthwise, then cut each half into 1 inch wide strips. You should end up with 18-22 strips total.
  • Place the strips of dough onto prepared baking sheet and place in the oven for 8-10 minutes or until the top is a nice golden brown color.
  • While the churros are in the oven melt butter in a square or rectangle bowl in the microwave.
  • In a small rectangle or square bowl mix sugar and cinnamon until well combined.
  • Once churros are removed from the oven, let them cool slightly and then dip each churro into the melted butter, and immediately roll them through the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
  • Place churros back on the sheet pan and let them dry. Enjoy!

Baked Churro Donuts are an easy homemade donut recipe. Coated in cinnamon & sugar they taste just like the churros you get at Disneyland. Delicious!

½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup brown sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1½ cups milk
2 eggs
1 cup butter (melted & cooled)
1 tbsp cinnamon

Steps:

  • Combine granulated sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl & whisk to combine.
  • Pour the mixture into a paper bag- set aside.
  • Preheat donut maker or if using traditional donut tins- preheat oven to 350.
  • Add flour, sugar & baking powder to a large bowl. Mix & then create a well in the center.
  • Pour in the milk and mix until almost all combined. Then add the eggs, mixing well.
  • Add the melted and cooled butter- mix until well combined.
  • Fold in the cinnamon.
  • Spray the donut maker wells or donut pans with cooking spray.
  • Add a portion of batter to a pastry bag & pipe the batter into the donut maker wells or into the donut pans.
  • Cook in the maker for 6 minutes or 10-12 in the oven.
  • Remove & immediately put the hot donuts in the prepared paper sack. Crimp down tightly to hold in heat & shake around to coat the donuts with the sugar mix. You can leave them in the closed bag while refilling the donut maker for the next batch.
  • Remove the coated donuts & let them cool on a wire rack.
  • Store in airtight container. I keep mine refrigerated & then warm for about 20-30 seconds in the microwave before serving.

Sugar: 2 tbspoons
Eggs: 3
Water: 1cup
Unsalted Butter: 1.2 cup/ 40 gr
Salt: 1 pinch
Vanilla: 1 & 1/2 tspoon

Steps:

  • Pour the butter,sugar, salt and a cup of water into a pan and put it on heat until the butter is melted and the ingredients start to boil.
  • Add the flour and mix well for about a minute with a wooden spoon/ a spatula to make a smooth dough.
  • Whisk the eggs in another bowl , add the vanilla and mix. Then add it to the dough and knead well until you have a sticky dough.
  • Transfer the dough into the piping bag, cover the baking tray with wax paper and pipe the dough into long churros. Use a star tip for the shape.
  • Bake for about 20-25 minutes in the preheated oven at 400 F. Mine took exactly 22 minutes. Leave in the oven for 10-15 minutes.
  • While they're in the oven, mix the cinnamon and powdered sugar together and pour into a bowl or make a chocolate sauce. Take the churros out of the oven, and roll it in this mixture and serve. Or wait for them to cool for about 20 minutes and dip them in the chocolate sauce.

  • Melt the water, butter, sugar and salt for the dough until it begins to simmer and then add the flour, beating until you have a smooth dough that forms a ball.
  • Beat together the eggs and vanilla and then very gradually incorporate into the dough until it is absorbed and you have a thick, elastic paste.
  • Put the paste into a piping bag with a star nozzle and pipe lines of paste onto the parchment, leaving about 3cm between each one. Bake for 18 minutes or until golden and then turn off the oven and leave in there for about 8-10 minutes to dry out.
  • Begin to make your chocolate sauce. Put all the ingredients in a pan and melt gently whilst stirring until you have a smooth shiny sauce.
  • When the churros are ready, put them in the bag with the dusting and coat them well, then serve them straight away with the chocolate sauce (or sauce of your choice).
