If you're looking for a change from typical barbecue ribs, you'll enjoy this recipe my mom always prepared on birthdays and special occasions. The tender ribs have a slight sweet-and-sour taste that my family loves. I usually serve them with garlic mashed potatoes and a salad or coleslaw. -Dorothy Voelz, Champaign, Illinois

3 to 4 pounds boneless country-style pork ribs
1 can (20 ounces) pineapple tidbits, undrained
2 cans (8 ounces each) tomato sauce
1/2 cup thinly sliced onion
1/2 cup thinly sliced green pepper
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup tomato paste
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon cold water

Steps:

  • Place ribs in an ungreased 5-qt. slow cooker. Combine the next 11 ingredients; pour over ribs. Cook, covered, on low until meat is tender, 8-10 hours., To make sauce, transfer cooking juices to a small saucepan; bring to a boil. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine cornstarch and water until smooth; stir into juices. Return to a boil, stirring constantly; cook and stir until thickened, 1-2 minutes. Serve with ribs.

I tried these at a family reunion and loved them! These are so easy to make. You throw a few ingredients together, throw them in the roasting pan and let the oven do all the work. The end is fall off the bone ribs and a yummy sauce that goes great with rice!

3 lbs ribs, cut into sections
1 cup vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup ketchup
1 cup tomato juice
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 pinch salt
1 pinch pepper
1 pinch paprika

Steps:

  • Put ribs in roasting pan.
  • Mix remaining ingredients together.
  • Pour over ribs.
  • Bake at 325°F for 3 hours.
  • Baste or "rotate" the ribs during cooking to make sure all of them get a nice coating of the sauce.

My Mom's longtime recipe that she learned from my grandmother who has long passed on. Combines soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, dry mustard, garlic, as well as a few other simple ingredients to make a delicious sauce for sweet and sour cut ribs. Great over rice! Some say rice and this sauce is their favorite food! A Lechner family tradition!

1 cup white sugar
¼ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
½ teaspoon dry mustard
2 cups water
½ cup soy sauce
½ cup vinegar
2 pounds pork spareribs, cut into bite size pieces
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 cloves garlic, chopped

Steps:

  • In a bowl, mix the sugar, flour, salt, pepper, and mustard. Stir in the water, soy sauce, and vinegar.
  • Place the ribs in a pot with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil, cook 10 minutes, and drain.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat, and brown the ribs on all sides. Mix in the sauce mixture. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer 30 minutes. Mix in the garlic, and continue cooking 15 minutes, or to desired doneness.

  • Brown ribs on both sides under broiler.
  • Combine above ingredients and pour over brown ribs in roast pan.

2 cups packed brown sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/3 cup water
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons ketchup
3 garlic cloves, minced
8 bone-in country-style pork ribs (3 inches thick and 8 ounces each)

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar and flour. Stir in the vinegar, water, soy sauce, ketchup and garlic. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened., Place ribs in a 5-qt. slow cooker. Top with sauce. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until meat is tender. Skim fat. 1 pound pork spare ribs, cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons rice wine, divided
¼ teaspoon salt
2 cups vegetable oil for frying
⅓ cup white sugar
¼ cup water
2 teaspoons Chinese black vinegar

Steps:

  • Combine pork ribs, soy sauce, 1 teaspoon rice wine, and salt in a large bowl. Marinate in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a wok or deep saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook ribs in the hot oil until golden brown and no longer pink in the center, about 10 minutes.
  • Bring remaining 1 teaspoon rice wine, sugar, and water to a boil in a saucepan. Stir in ribs; reduce heat and simmer until flavors combine, about 5 minutes. Stir in black vinegar. Increase heat to high; cook and stir until sauce thickens and coats the ribs, 1 to 2 minutes.
