Sweet and Sour Shrimp is a quick Chinese meal made all in on pot! Succulent seafood is stir-fried with bell peppers, zucchini, pineapple and then tossed in a tangy honey sauce.

½ cup honey
⅓ cup rice vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
3 tablespoons tomato paste
3 tablespoons pineapple juice
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
1 pound shrimp (peeled and deveined, 16/20 count size)
½ teaspoon kosher salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
½ teaspoon sesame oil
1 cup red bell pepper (¾-inch dice)
1 cup zucchini (¼-inch slices)
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon minced ginger
1 cup pineapple chunks
1 tablespoon sliced green onion
¼ teaspoon sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Whisk together honey, rice vinegar, soy sauce, tomato paste, and pineapple juice and a medium bowl.
  • Whisk together cornstarch and water in a small bowl.
  • Dry shrimp with paper towels. Combine shrimp with salt and pepper in a medium bowl.
  • Heat a wok or large saute pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon vegetable oil and sesame oil.
  • Once the oil is hot add the shrimp in a single layer, do not move for 1 minute. Stir and cook another 30 seconds. Transfer cooked shrimp to a clean plate.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the pan, once hot add the bell pepper and zucchini. Stir-fry for 2 minutes.
  • Add in the garlic and ginger, stir-fry for 30 seconds.
  • Add in the pineapple and stir-fry for 30 seconds.
  • Pour in the sweet and sour sauce, stir and cook until simmering, 2 minutes.
  • Whisk the cornstarch mixture and then gradually add it to the center of the pan. Stir constantly until the sauce is thickened, 30 seconds.
  • Add the cooked shrimp, stir to combine and cook until shrimp are warmed through, 2 minutes.
  • Serve sweet and sour shrimp garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.

6 tablespoons chicken stock or water
3 tablespoons ketchup
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons pineapple or orange juice
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 teaspoons soy sauce
3/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 pound shrimp
2 teaspoons minced ginger
2 teaspoons minced garlic
2 tablespoons peanut or vegetable oil
1 cup thinly sliced onions
1 cup 1-inch chunks green bell peppers
1 cup pineapple chunks
12 maraschino cherries
6 tablespoons thinly sliced green onions
Hot white rice, accompaniment

Steps:

  • To make the sauce, in a bowl, combine 1/4 cup of stock, the ketchup, sugar, juice, vinegar, soy, and 1/2 teaspoon of the pepper flakes. Set aside.
  • In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch with the remaining 2 tablespoons of stock and stir to dissolve. Set aside.
  • In a bowl, toss the shrimp with the ginger, garlic, and remaining 1/4 teaspoon pepper flakes. Set aside for 10 to 20 minutes.
  • Heat a large wok over high heat. Add the oil, swirling to coat the sides and bottom of the pan. Add the shrimp, garlic, and ginger and stir-fry until pink, about 2 minutes. Remove from the pan. Add the onions and peppers and stir-fry until crisp-tender, about 2 minutes. Add the sauce and cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Add the cornstarch mixture and bring to a boil. Return the shrimp to the pan and add the pineapples, cherries, and green onions. Cook until the sauce is thick, about 1 minute.
  • Remove from the heat and serve over rice.

Steps:

1 lb. medium or large shrimp - shelled and deveined
1 can pineapple slices (reserve the juice)
1 1/2 cups sweet peppers
2 cups pea pods
1 carrot - optional
1 cup chopped onion
2 - 3 tablespoons oil
1 tablespoon Oyster Sauce
1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
Pepper to taste
1 cup juice from the canned pineapple
3 tablespoons vinegar (white or rice vinegar)
3 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with water

Steps:

  • Marinade the shrimp in the soy sauce and oyster sauce while you prepare the vegetables.
  • Chop up the onions into small pieces. Chop the carrot into small circles, very thin.
  • Slice the sweet peppers into strips and cut in half in the pieces are too big.
  • Drain the pineapple and reserve the juice. Cut the pineapple into large chunks.
  • Remove the strings from the pea pods if you have them.
  • Mix the sauce ingredients together. Set aside until ready to use.
  • Add the oil to a saute pan. Add the shrimp and cook for about 2 - 3 minutes. Don't cook the shrimp all of the way. Put on a plate while you prepare the rest.
  • Add the onions, carrots and sweet pepper strips to the pan. Cook for several minutes until the start to wilt and the onion become transparent. Add the pineapple and pea pods to the vegetables. Cook for about 2 minutes, while the pineapple gets hot. Stir often.
  • Add the shrimp back to the pan.
  • Stir up the sauce ingredients. Pour into the pan and stir while the sauce thickens. When the sauce is thickened it's done. Serve over rice.

600 grams King prawn

0.5 tsp peppercorns

1 tsp powdered sugar
100 milliliters Orange juice
150 milliliters Vegetable broth
1 tsp cornstarch
1 Tbsp sweet and sour Chili sauce
4 stalks cilantro

Steps:

  • Cook rice according to package directions until al dente.
  • Meanwhile peel pineapple, cut off the ends and cut the pineapple lengthwise into quarters. Cut out the hard core, cut the quarters into pieces.
  • Rinse shrimp under cold water and pat dry. Crush allspice with peppercorns in a mortar, season with salt and season the shrimp. Heat oil in a pan and cook the shrimp briefly, then take out of the pan.
  • Coat the pineapple pieces with powdered sugar and gently caramelize in pan drippings. Deglaze with juice and broth and bring to a boil.
  • Mix the cornstarch with a little cold water until smooth and stir into the sauce. Simmer until light and creamy, reduce the heat and season with chile sauce and salt. Add the shrimp and let simmer.
  • Rinse cilantro, shake dry, pluck leaves. Serve the shrimp with the rice and garnish with cilantro.

1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup pineapple preserves
4 teaspoons soy sauce

30 uncooked large shrimp, peeled and deveined (about 2 pounds)
1 to 2 large green peppers, cut into 1-inch pieces
1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, halved

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, combine the first five ingredients; bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently. Remove from the heat; cool. Set aside 1/2 cup for basting. Place remaining sauce in a large resealable plastic bag; add shrimp. Seal bag; refrigerate for 30 minutes. , Drain and discard marinade. 2 teaspoons garlic (crushed)
1 teaspoon ginger (crushed)
1/2 cup orange marmalade
2 tablespoons rice vinegar

2 lbs medium shrimp, cleaned
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon pure chile powder

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan warm the peanut oil over medium heat. Add the ginger and garlic; cook until golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Add the marmalade, rice vinegar,Dijon mustard and fish sauce; stir until the marmalade has melted. Remove the saucepan from the heat and set aside at room temperature. (Can make the sauce ahead of time and warm up over medium heat before serving.).

1/4 cup lime juice

1 lime, zested

1 1/2 pounds large shrimp (16/20 per pound), peeled and deveined

Steps:

  • Whisk all the marinade ingredients together in a small bowl. Add the shrimp to a large resealable plastic bag and pour in the marinade. Refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  • Oil the grill rack with a clean kitchen towel dipped in olive oil.

1 firm ripe mango
4 stalks fresh lemongrass
1/3 cup (75 mL) sweet and sour sauce
1/4 cup (60 mL) rice vinegar
1 garlic clove, pressed

16 large uncooked shrimp (21-25 per pound/450 g), peeled and deveined
1 cup (250 mL) hot cooked white rice
2 tablespoons (30 mL) snipped fresh cilantro
1 tablespoon (15 mL) chopped peanuts

Steps:

  • Peel mango; slice off flesh. Cut eight 3/4-inch-thick chunks from flesh. Dice remaining mango and set aside for later use in rice. Remove tough outer layer from each lemongrass stalk. Make a sharp diagonal cut 8 inches from top of each stalk; set aside top halves of stalks to use as skewers.Finely chop bottom halves of lemongrass stalks with Food Chopper.
