APPLE PIE CRUMBLE CAKE



Apple Pie Crumble Cake image

This dessert lets you have your cake and eat your pie, too.

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 15

Canola oil for brushing
1 cup (250 mL) plus 1½ tbsp (22 mL) granulated sugar, divided
½ tsp (2 mL) Cinnamon Plus® (see cook's tip)
5 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, cut in half lengthwise (about 1 ¾ lb/750 g)
3 eggs
⅔ cup (150 mL) oil
¼ tsp (1 mL) vanilla extract
1 cup (250 mL) all-purpose flour
¼ tsp (1 mL) salt
Ice cream or whipped cream
⅓ cup (75 mL) all-purpose flour
¼ cup (50 mL) granulated sugar
¼ cup (50 mL) coarsely chopped pecans (optional)
½ tsp (2 mL) Cinnamon Plus®
2 tbsp (30 mL) butter, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the bottom and sides of a deep 9" or 10" (23- or 25-cm) pie dish with oil.Combine 1½ tbsp (22 mL) of granulated sugar and Cinnamon Plus® in a small mixing bowl and set aside.Using the Quick Slice, slice the apple halves and layer the slices in the bottom of the pie plate (about ⅔ of the way up the sides). Sprinkle with the sugar mixture.Beat the remaining 1 cup (250 mL) granulated sugar and eggs with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes, or until light and fluffy. Add the oil and vanilla and beat well. Stir in the flour and salt, and pour the batter over the apples.Combine all of the crumb topping ingredients and sprinkle them over the batter.Bake until a wooden pick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean, about 55-60 minutes.Let the cake cool for at least 1 hour. If desired, serve with ice cream or whipped cream.

4 -5 medium apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
1 1/4 cups sugar (divided)
3 teaspoons cinnamon
3/4 cup butter or 3/4 cup margarine
1 cup flour
1 egg

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Fill pie pan 3/4 full with apples.
  • Mix 1/4 cup sugar and 3 tsp cinnamon.
  • Sprinkle over apples.
  • In saucepan, melt butter and remove from heat.
  • Add remaining ingredients (including the 1 cup of sugar remaining).
  • Pour evenly over the apples in pan.
  • Bake 45 minutes.

1/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 large egg
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 medium tart apples, chopped
3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted
Confectioners' sugar, optional

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flours, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. In a small bowl, whisk egg and vanilla. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Fold in apples and walnuts., Transfer to a 9-in. pie plate coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar if desired. Serve warm.

1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¾ cup melted butter
1 egg

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Toss apples with 1 tablespoon of sugar, and pour them into a pie plate. Thoroughly mix together 1 cup of sugar with the flour, cinnamon, butter, and egg. Spread this evenly over the top of the pie.
  • Bake in preheated oven until the apples have cooked and the topping is golden brown, about 40 to 45 minutes.

2 ½ cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 cup white sugar
¾ cup margarine, melted
½ cup chopped pecans
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 pinch salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9 inch pie pan with margarine.
  • Fill 2/3 of the pan with sliced apples. Sprinkle with cinnamon and 1 teaspoon sugar.
  • In a medium bowl, mix 1 cup sugar with the melted margarine. Stir in pecans, flour, egg and salt. Mix well. Spread mixture over the apples.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 65 minutes, or until golden brown.

8 medium sized granny smith apples, peeled, sliced and cored. (The more spots on the apple, the sweeter the apple)
1 Tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 cup butter, melted & cooled.
1 cup white sugar
Pinch of salt
1 egg
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon almond extract (original recipe called for 1 tsp but we found that to be a bit overwhelming)
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350*F Spray a pie plate with non-stick spray and fill pie plate 3/4 full with sliced apples. Sprinkle apples with 1 Tablespoon white sugar and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, 1 cup sugar, salt, egg, flour, almond extract & pecans. Mix well. Spread egg mixture over apples gently. Bake for 50 - 60 minutes or until crust is golden. Can be served warm or cold with whipped cream or ice cream.
