Swedish Apple Pie image

This is a "no crust" apple pie that my mom used to make. It is great served alone or with vanilla ice cream. This is a "must" for our family at holiday gatherings.

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 -5 medium apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
1 1/4 cups sugar (divided)
3 teaspoons cinnamon
3/4 cup butter or 3/4 cup margarine
1 cup flour
1 egg

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Fill pie pan 3/4 full with apples.
  • Mix 1/4 cup sugar and 3 tsp cinnamon.
  • Sprinkle over apples.
  • In saucepan, melt butter and remove from heat.
  • Add remaining ingredients (including the 1 cup of sugar remaining).
  • Pour evenly over the apples in pan.
  • Bake 45 minutes.

I won 1st place in an apple bake-off contest with this recipe. It is the easiest and best apple pie I have ever tasted. It has no crust, believe me, it doesn't need one. I always use Granny Smith apples because they are the best apples for pies. Enjoy!!!!

2 ½ cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 cup white sugar
¾ cup margarine, melted
½ cup chopped pecans
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 pinch salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9 inch pie pan with margarine.
  • Fill 2/3 of the pan with sliced apples. Sprinkle with cinnamon and 1 teaspoon sugar.
  • In a medium bowl, mix 1 cup sugar with the melted margarine. Stir in pecans, flour, egg and salt. Mix well. Spread mixture over the apples.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 65 minutes, or until golden brown.

1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¾ cup melted butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Toss apples with 1 tablespoon of sugar, and pour them into a pie plate. Thoroughly mix together 1 cup of sugar with the flour, cinnamon, butter, and egg. Spread this evenly over the top of the pie.
  • Bake in preheated oven until the apples have cooked and the topping is golden brown, about 40 to 45 minutes.

1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flours, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. In a small bowl, whisk egg and vanilla. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. 8 medium sized granny smith apples, peeled, sliced and cored. (The more spots on the apple, the sweeter the apple)
1 Tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 cup butter, melted & cooled.
1 cup white sugar
Pinch of salt
1 egg
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon almond extract (original recipe called for 1 tsp but we found that to be a bit overwhelming)
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350*F Spray a pie plate with non-stick spray and fill pie plate 3/4 full with sliced apples. Sprinkle apples with 1 Tablespoon white sugar and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, 1 cup sugar, salt, egg, flour, almond extract & pecans. Mix well. Spread egg mixture over apples gently. Bake for 50 - 60 minutes or until crust is golden. Can be served warm or cold with whipped cream or ice cream.

4-5 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 c all-purpose flour
1 c sugar
3/4 c margarine (I use butter) chopped up or can melt the butter
1 egg
pinch salt

Steps:

  • 1. Mix flour, sugar, margarine or butter (either melted or cut up), egg, and pinch of salt together.
  • 2. Put the 4 or 5 apples in a 9" glass pie pan. Sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar over them.
  • 3. Then pour batter over the apples.
  • 4. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
  • 5. Have been asked whether to melt the butter or not, I didn't in this recipe, I spooned on the batter, some have and it still came out good, so I guess you can do it either way!

I've made this in a pie plate, but I've also made it in an 8x8 square pan and I've even doubled the recipe and made it in a 13x9 pan. It's very versatile and everyone who tries it loves it. It's the ONLY apple pie I like.

1 1/2 lb apples - peeled, cored and sliced (i use a mix, with at least 1 or 2 granny smith)
1 c sugar
1 c flour
3/4 c butter, melted
1 egg
1/4 c cinnamon sugar (approximately)
1 c walnut pieces, optional

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • 2. Toss apples with Cinnamon Sugar and Walnuts (if using), then pour into a pie plate.
  • 3. In a separate bowl, thoroughly mix together sugar with the flour, butter, and egg. Spread evenly over the top of the pie.
  • 4. Bake in preheated oven until the apples have cooked and the topping is golden brown, about 40-45 minutes. Store covered in the refrigerator. This pie is best served warm topped with ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce!

1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. sugar
1 cup flour

1/3 cup chopped nuts
Pinch of salt
¾ cup unsalted butter (1 stick and ½)
1 large egg lightly beaten

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. Fill a glass/pyrex pie plate with peeled, cored and sliced apples - not too full, just enough to fill it to the edges. 3. Mix 1 tsp. cinnamon and 1 tsp. sugar and sprinkle over apples. Set aside. 4. In a medium saucepan melt ¾ cup butter (1 stick and ½) - make sure it is really hot!!! 5. Add this to flour and sugar mixture with lightly beaten egg - all at once. 6. Mix it well and pour/place over the apples. Be sure that the apples are totally covered and try not to go too near the edges of the pie plate. If you do it will run over and burn as well and/or adhere itself to the edge of the pie plate. Press it down firmly with your fingers or hand if necessary. 7. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes, or until top of pie is golden brown. 8. Enjoy!
