CHILI DOG ALA SONIC
This recipe appeared in Issue #1 of Archie Comic's Sonic the Hedgehog as the Blue Blur's favorite snack.

Steps:
- Brown the ground beef.
- Add your onions, peppers, and mushrooms, browning them lightly.
- Add the worcester sauce, tomatoes, and barbecue sauce. Simmer for half an hour.
- Add the spices and kidney beans. Simmer for 1 hour.
- Add the hot dogs and cook them for 15 minutes in the sauce.
- Serve on a toasted roll. Melted Cheese optional.
THE BEST CHILI
There are a thousand ways to make chili, but this is the quintessential, totally classic version. We used ground beef, kidney beans and the perfect blend of spices. You can slather it on hot dogs and burgers or serve it as a dip, but it can surely stand on its own. Chances are, you have everything you need right in your pantry. Top it with your favorite garnishes and serve with plenty of tortilla chips.

- Heat 2 tablespoons of the oil in a Dutch oven or large pot over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until just browned, about 4 minutes. Transfer to a plate with a slotted spoon.
- Reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining 2 tablespoons oil. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and lightly golden, about 10 minutes.
- Add the jalapeno and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
- Add the chili powder, cumin, paprika, cayenne, 1/2 teaspoon salt and the tomato paste. Cook, stirring frequently, until coated and fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Stir in the beef broth and crushed tomatoes and bring to a boil over high heat. Stir in the cooked ground beef and any accumulated liquid, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer the chili, partially covered, until the beef is tender and the sauce is slightly thickened, about 30 minutes.
- Stir in the beans and their liquid and simmer uncovered until the beans are softened and the chili is thickened, about 30 minutes more. Season with salt and pepper.
- Top with sour cream, Cheddar and scallions. Serve with tortilla chips.
SUPER SONIC CHILI
This is so good. You can add another tomato juice if you don't want it so thick. I serve with cut up avocado, grated cheese and chopped onions. I also add another can of tamales because my family fight over them.

Steps:
- 1. in a large pot brown ground beef, garlic and onion and drain
- 2. add chili seasoning,ground cumin, southwestern tomatos, and rotel tomatos
- 3. add tomato juice
- 4. mix in beans and stir. bring to a boil and simmer 20 mins
- 5. prepare tamales by unwrapping and cut in half
- 6. add tamales to pot and bring to boil.
- 7. serve with toppings
STROUPE'S SUPER SONIC CHILI
Until his recent retirement, I worked with a man who taught me much of what I know about my job and much that I've had to ignore because of my upbringing (ha)! He also makes a mean pot of chili that is a "must have" at each year's work Christmas party. He shared the recipe with me, as best he could, although his method is more "throw it in the pot and taste it 'til it works." Enjoy!

- Brown the meats with the onion and drain.
- Throw meats and remaining ingredients into a large pot and cook until it's ready.
- This really is one of those "taste it as you put it together" recipes but it is so worth the little bit of angst you may feel over not having exact measurements. Serve it with cheese, sour cream, or try it over rice for a different twist ... but don't forget the crackers or Mexican cornbread!
