Super Secret Sausage Gravy Recipe - (4.7/5) image

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb ground sausage
4 slices thick-cut bacon
1 tsp powdered beef stock
3 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 cup milk
1/4 cayenne (optional)
1/4 tsp powdered garlic (optional)

Steps:

  • Serve 4-6 (or 2 hungy bikers)In a large skillet, fry off the bacon and reserve the grease to a bowl (serve the bacon on the side with breakfast) Cook sausage with a small amount of chicken stock or water to help break down the fat and allow sausage to cook into little pieces Add bacon grease back to pan with sausage Stir in flour, salt, pepper, and powdered beef broth to make your roux Be sure to cook it at least 2 minutes stirring constantly, to get the 'raw flour' taste out Gradually stir in milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture is thickened. Serve over biscuits

1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
salt and black pepper to taste
8 prepared biscuits

Steps:

  • Crumble and cook sausage in large skillet over medium heat until browned. Stir in flour until dissolved. Gradually stir in milk. Cook gravy until thick and bubbly. Season with salt and pepper. Serve hot over biscuits. Refrigerate leftovers.

1 pound ground pork sausage
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 cups milk

Steps:

  • Place sausage in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Remove sausage, drain and set aside.
  • Pour off most of the fat from the pan, leaving about 2 to 3 tablespoons. Return pan to medium-low heat and add flour. Using a whisk, stir vigorously until roux forms, scraping bottom of pan. Reduce heat to low and let roux cook at least 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Grandma always "burned" hers a little on purpose.
  • Add milk in a stream, whisking the whole time. After adding about 2 1/2 cups, turn heat to medium and continue cooking, stirring constantly. Bring gravy to a boil and cook to desired thickness. Add more milk if a thinner gravy is desired. You may also add some of the cooked and crumbled sausage to the gravy.
