MOM'S SUNDAY WAFFLES



Mom's Sunday Waffles image

My family has been making this recipe for waffles every Sunday since I was born. The book this comes out of is in pieces and has no cover. It is also covered in flour we use it so much. This recipes also makes good pancakes.

Yield 5-8 waffles

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 1/4 cups flour
1 pinch salt
1 cup milk
4 tablespoons margarine
2 eggs

Steps:

  • Mix dry together in a bowl.
  • Mix wet together in a bowl.
  • Separate eggs and beat the whites stiff.
  • Mix yolks in with the wet.
  • Mix wet into dry slowly.
  • Fold in egg whites.

Sunday Supper Buttermilk Waffles image

This recipe comes from the Farm Journal's Country Cookbook. I love these wafflles because they are so rich you don't need to put butter on them. They melt in your mouth. I make them in a traditional waffle iron, not a Belgian iron. (Also, you don't have to separate the eggs.)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups flour, sifted
3 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups buttermilk
4 eggs
1 cup butter

Steps:

  • Start heating waffle iron.
  • Melt butter.
  • Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Beat eggs until foamy, then add buttermilk.
  • Add milk-egg mixture to dry ingredients.
  • Beat just enough to moisten dry ingredients.
  • Stir in slightly cooled butter.
  • Pour batter into waffle iron.
  • Bake until steaming stops.
  • Remove waffle and place on warm plate.
  • Reheat waffle iron before pouring more batter.
