- Combine the garlic and salt in a mortar and mash to a paste with the pestle (or use a food processor). Combine the mashed garlic, mayonnaise, buttermilk, parsley, chives, scallion, vinegar, and pepper in a bowl and mix well. Add additional buttermilk if the dressing is too thick. Use the dressing immediately or store in the refrigerator in a covered container for up to 2 weeks.
