CONFECTIONERS' SUGAR GLAZE
This versatile glaze is shared by our Test Kitchen. You can make the basic powdered sugar glaze and tint it with food coloring if desired. For chocolate lovers, skip the food coloring and stir in some baking cocoa.

SUGAR COOKIE GLAZE
This glaze dries hard which makes it great for taking along or showcasing in a pretty glass cookie jar. I make sugar cookies iced with this glaze for every event I can think of, from Christmas to the 4th of July. Once you try it you'll love it.

Steps:
- 1. Stir ingredients together with a fork until smooth, adding water a little at a time. You made need more, you made need less. Less water makes a thicker glaze.
- 2. It starts out as a white glaze but can be easily altered with any food coloring. I prefer using paste food colorings as not to thin the glaze. In the photo I added a few dots of color on a white iced cookie and swirled it with a toothpick. It drags easily.
- 3. So much fun to work with, the possibilities are endless!

SUGAR COOKIE GLAZE
My mom got this recipe from my first-grade teacher when she was Room Mother for our class. Kids love to paint it on. The colors are bright, and the cookies dry with a hard glaze that stores and travels really well.

PERFECT SUGAR COOKIE GLAZE
I needed an easy glaze the hardened quickly (instead of over night like so many) but one that still had good flavor. This dries hard enough to stack the cookies. Note: Make one batch at a time. It's unmanageable in anything larger. Children's water color brushes or those used for painting chocolate molds work well. Make sure to put down wax paper or parchment paper on your work surface and prepare for messy kidlets. Originally found at All Recipes

- Whisk until the mixture is smooth. You may need to add more water to get the right consistency. Add a few drops at a time. I know that sounds like overkill, but it goes from really close to being perfect to completely runny in just a few drops.
- Put the cookies on a rack. I like to line a cookie sheet with parchment and then add the rack to make the clean up easier.
