STRAWBERRY SHORT CAKE... WITH A COUPLE OF TWISTS.



Strawberry Short Cake... With a Couple of Twists. image

This is my take on strawberry short cake. For the vanilla sponge cake.. you can do scratch, store bought, or out the box. Which ever is easier for you. This is a real easy dessert to put together. And tastes amazing.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (9 inch) vanilla sponge cakes, cut into 9 equal squares
2 lbs fresh strawberries, cut in quarters
4 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup lemon curd (or make your own)
cracked black pepper
1 cup heavy cream, whipped

Steps:

  • Cut the cake squares in half. So that you are able to build sort of a sandwich.
  • In a large bowl add strawberries and sugar. Stir.
  • Let sit 5 minutes. Then season with cracked black pepper. ( i know this sounds odd -- but it's delicious).
  • To assemble the cake:.
  • One layer of cake, topped with a spoon full of lemon curd.
  • Top that with a generous helping of the strawberry mixture.
  • Topped with whipped cream.
  • Topped with second layer of cake.
  • Topped with more strawberry and more cream.
  • Enjoy.
