STRAWBERRY PRETZEL JELL-O

Strawberry Pretzel Jell-O image

A crisp salty pretzel crust complements the creamy marshmallow-fluff-like "white" layer, with a tangy topping of strawberries in gelatin. Much like a strawberry cheesecake, but with the surprise of pretzels! For best results, make Strawberry Pretzel Jell-O only one day in advance, to preserve the crunchy texture of the pretzels.

STRAWBERRY PRETZEL JELLO

Strawberry Pretzel Jello image

Crushed pretzel crust topped with sweet-creamy cream cheese layer and strawberry jello loaded with strawberries.

Provided by Bernie

Categories     Dessert

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups crushed pretzels
3/4 cup butter (melted)
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 packages strawberry Jello (3 ounces each)
2 cups boiling water
2 packages frozen strawberries (10 ounces each, sliced/thawed)
8 ounces frozen whipped topping (thawed (Cool Whip used))
8 ounces cream cheese (full fat, softened to room temp)
2/3 cup granulated sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400°. Add the pretzels to a sturdy zip top bag then crush using a rolling pin or mallet then add to a medium size bowl.
  • Add the melted butter and sugar then press into an ungreased 9 x 13 baking dish. Bake 10 minutes then cool completely.
  • Add the whipped topping, cream cheese and sugar to another bowl then beat until smooth. Once the crust has cooled completely, even spread the cream cheese layer over the top. NOTE: be sure to spread the cream cheese layer all the way to the edges. This provides a seal so the jello doesn't reach the crust and make it soggy.
  • Dissolve the jello in boiling water in a bowl. Stir in the strawberries and allow the jello/strawberries to thicken slightly then pour over the cream cheese mixture.
  • Refrigerate until firm - usually 4-6 hours.

STRAWBERRY-PRETZEL JELLO SALAD

Strawberry-Pretzel Jello Salad image

If you're like us, this strawberry gelatin, cream cheese, whipped topping, and pretzel creation brings back memories of church potlucks and family reunions. We think of summer days, camping out on a picnic table in a park, and scooping this gelatin salad off of a paper plate with a plastic fork while sitting in a lawn chair. We all know that one person who shows up with a Strawberry-Pretzel Jello Salad in hand-and, it's usually their specialty. (We're looking at you, Nana!) A gelatin salad often finds its place on the actual salad table next to the potato salad and macaroni salads, so we wouldn't blame you if you counted this as your daily fruit intake. Some folks even like to serve it up as a side for their holiday dinners. This nostalgic recipe is a creamy, fruity, and crunchy Southern classic. If you haven't before, it's time to give this potluck favorite a whirl.

BEST STRAWBERRY PRETZEL SALAD (DESSERT!)

Best Strawberry Pretzel Salad (Dessert!) image

This sweet dessert "salad" recipe features layers of strawberry jello with fresh berries, cream cheese fluff, and crunchy pretzels. It's a classic southern treat that's perfect for potlucks and dinner parties!

Provided by Sommer Collier

Categories     Dessert     Side Dish

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 9

6 ounces strawberry jello mix
2 cups boiling water
2 cups crushed pretzel pieces (any shape)
½ cup finely chopped pecans
½ cup melted butter
¾ cup granulated sugar (+ 1 tb, divided)
8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
8 ounces whipped topping (like Cool Whip)
1 ½ pounds fresh strawberries (hulled and sliced thin)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Set out a 9 x 13 inch baking dish and a mixing bowl. Grease the baking dish and set aside. In the bowl, mix the strawberry jello with 2 cups boiling water, stirring until completely dissolved. Set aside to cool to room temperature.
  • Meanwhile, crush enough pretzels to fill 2 cups. You can chop them, place them in a zip bag and beat them with a rolling pin, to quickly pulse them in a food processor. Then chop the pecans.
  • Place the crushed pretzels, chopped pecans, ¼ cup + 1 tb sugar in the baking dish. Pour the melted butter over the top, then toss well to coat the pretzels. Press the pretzel mixture into a tight even layer and bake for 10 minutes.
  • Set out a clean mixing bowl. Use an electric hand mixer to beat the cream cheese with the remaining ½ cup sugar, until light and fluffy. Gently fold in whipped topping until completely smooth and even. Set aside.
  • Trim the tops off the strawberries, then thinly slice. Separate out one-third of the strawberry slices and finely dice (to fill in the cracks.) Then mix all the berries together.
  • Once the pretzel layer has cooled to room temperature, spread the cream cheese filling over it, in an even layer. Spoon the fresh sliced (and diced) strawberries evenly over the cream layer.
  • Pour the cooled strawberry jello mixture over the fresh strawberry layer. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE IT ALL. I usually pour about three-quarters of the liquid jello over the berries, so they are all completely coated in jello, but not floating in it. This creates a better berry-to-jello ratio, in my humble opinion. (It's a matter of personal preference, so use as much of the jello as you like.)
  • Refrigerate until the jello is set, usually 2-3 hours. Cut and serve cold.

STRAWBERRY PRETZEL SALAD 8X8 RECIPES
Supposedly the origin of the strawberry pretzel salad can be traced back to the 1960’s when a cookbook entitled “The Joys of Jell-o” was published. The book was chock full of recipes that (unsurprisingly) used Jello as a main ingredient. One of them featured strawberry jello in a recipe pretty similar to that of a strawberry pretzel salad.
