- Let the moonshine “age” Well not actually age, but when you have the moonshine ready you should let it sit for roughly two weeks. It is usually recommended that you refrigerate the moonshine for that period which really allows the flavor to develop.
- Use lemon juice in the mixture. Many people probably think that a strawberry moonshine will just have strawberries in it. However, adding lemon juice to the moonshine will give the flavor a little added kick.
- Use strawberry puree. It’s obvious that you aren’t going to be using full strawberries in a moonshine. You want to blend the strawberries into a complete puree.
- Remove all pulp. When you pour your moonshine into a mason jar to store it, you want to make sure to remove all the pulp from it. The pulp actually distorts the taste of the moonshine, especially since you will be refrigerating it for 2 weeks.
- Use a mason jar to store the moonshine. The importance of the use of mason jar to store the moonshine cannot be emphasized enough. The mason jar allows the moonshine to fully develop its flavor as it is stored since it allows both heat and the cool elements pass into and out of the moonshine as it is stored.

- Rinse the strawberries with clean water: this will reduce the potential of an infection from wild yeast or bacteria on the fruit.
- Remove the green tops from the strawberries: the green tops can add bitterness to the mash.
- Blend the strawberries once the tops have been removed- be careful to remove all rotten berries.
- While blending the berries, add raisins to the mix a little bit at a time- do this until all 1.5 pounds have been blended.
- Dump the blended strawberries from the blender into a clean and sanitized food safe bucket. Use a brewing bucket with gallon marks on it so you can monitor how many gallons of puree you have.
- Once you have collected 2.5 gallons of strawberry puree transfer to your boil kettle.
- Take a specific gravity reading of the mash- you will need to use a brix refractometer as the mash will be too thick for a hydrometer.
- The Strawberry mash should have a specific gravity reading around 1.024 which would yield around 3.5% ABV.
