MOM'S STRAWBERRY ANGEL FOOD CAKE

Mom's Strawberry Angel Food Cake image

My Mom has always made this angel food cake for her children. I have made this several times for different functions, and the response is overwhelming. It's a perfect summer dessert!! It is light, cool and refreshing. I use sugar free jell-o and lite cool whip, for an extra light dessert. I have also used other jell-o flavors along with different fruits. Very versatile!!

Time 1h

Yield 1 Cake, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 prepared angel food cake
2 (3 ounce) boxes strawberry Jell-O gelatin dessert or 2 (3 ounce) boxes sugar-free strawberry Jell-O gelatin dessert
1 (12 ounce) package frozen strawberries, in juice
1 (16 ounce) container Cool Whip or 1 (16 ounce) container Cool Whip Lite
boiled water
fresh strawberries, for decorating (optional)

Steps:

  • Cut the angel food cake horizontally approximately two inches from the top. Remove the top cover of the angel food cake, put to the side. Begin pulling out the inside of the angel food cake in little pieces; be careful not to make any holes to the outer shell of the cake. Pull out approximately two inches down of the angel food cake reserving all of your pieces.
  • In a separate bowl dissolve the jell-o and boiling water. Once the jell-o is completely dissolved, add the frozen strawberries to the mix. The mixture will become thicker and more jelly like. Once the frozen strawberries have thawed in the mixture, begin adding the reserved pieces of angel food cake. Mix well. Place mixture in refrigerator for 15-20 minutes or until well chilled.
  • Scoop out the jell-o mixture into the hollow angel food cake, filling it to the top. Place the cover of the cake back on the top, and finish off my creaming the entire cake with cool whip. Place the cake in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours before serving, serve cold. Fresh strawberries can be placed on top for decorations.
  • Try experimenting with different flavors of jell-o and fruit-delicious!
  • Enjoy!

STRAWBERRY JELLO ANGEL FOOD CAKE RECIPE - (4.2/5)

Strawberry Jello Angel Food Cake Recipe - (4.2/5) image

Provided by CookingwithK

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 (6 oz) package Strawberry jello
2 cups boiling water
1 (10 oz) tub frozen sweetened strawberries, thawed
1 9" pre made Angel Food Cake
1 recipe of whipped cream (or 1 24 oz carton Cool Whip)

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl that can be sealed, dissolve jello in boiling water. Add frozen strawberries that have been thawed, and stir until well blended. Turn Angel Food cake upside down and push down in the jello mixture. Cover with lid and seal tightly. Turn bowl upside down two or three times to distribute the strawberries. Turn right side up and push cake down in the jello one more time. Place in the refrigerator until jello has set, approximately 4 hours or overnight. Check after thirty minutes to make sure the cake is submerged in the jello. (Sometimes I have to lay a plate on top to get it to submerge.) Set out on the counter for a few minutes to reach room temperature. Invert cake on a serving platter. Frost with whipped cream or cool whip and serve immediately. Store leftover cake in the refrigerator. Notes: If you do not have a big enough bowl with a seal, you can use a large bowl and place a plate on top of the cake and seal with a plastic wrap or foil. This cake can be made with a sugar free angel food cake, sugar free jello, and unsweetened strawberries.

STRAWBERRY JELLO ANGEL FOOD CAKE RECIPE - (3.9/5)

Strawberry Jello Angel Food Cake Recipe - (3.9/5) image

Provided by Renna

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 large box Strawberry Jello
2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced in half
1 Angel Food cake

Steps:

  • In a large bowl big enough to hold a whole angel food cake inside, mix jello according to directions, MINUS 1/2 cup of cold water, until all jello is completely dissolved. Pour strawberries into jello. Place cake upside down into bowl, pushing down into jello/strawberries mixture, holding down with your hands for a few minutes, giving the cake a little time to absorb some of the liquid. Take something heavy enough to hold down cake almost completely in jello and place on top of cake in bowl. I usually use a few heavy plates that fit inside the top of the bowl well, about the size of the cake. Or if your bowl has a tight fitting lid that will hold your cake down in the jello, use that. Refrigerate until firmly set, I refrigerate mine until the next day. To release cake, fill sink with warm water, hold bowl down in water, making sure not to let it get in the bowl, for about 1 minute. Place large plate over top of bowl and invert, hold for a few seconds, if cake doesn't fall to plate, hold in water a few more seconds, repeat until cake falls out onto plate when inverted. Serve with whipped cream if desired.

Provided by ChamoritaMomma

Categories     Gelatin

Time 2h20m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 (6 ounce) package strawberry Jell-O gelatin dessert
3 cups boiling water
1 (10 ounce) package frozen strawberries, thawed
1 pre-made angel food cake
1 (8 ounce) container Cool Whip

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, dissolve the package of Jell-O with the water. If the strawberries aren't sweet, add 1 tablespoon of sugar. Add the package of thawed berries to the jell-o mixture and stir to combine well. Set this into the refrigerator.
  • Meanwhile, tear the Angel Food cake into chunky pieces and lay at the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish; set aside.
  • Once the jell-o mixture is slightly set, but not totally congealed, fold in the tub of Cool Whip and stir to combine. Pour this mixture over top of the Angel food cake, using a spoon to work the berry mixture in and around the cake pieces; using all of the jell-o mixture.
  • Cover and return back to the refrigerator until completely set. Garnish with more whip cream and fresh strawberries.
  • NOTES: This can also be turned into a healthier dessert by using Sugar-Free and Fat-Free ingredients.
  • Prep time is fast! Cooking time is actually time for jell-o to slightly set and then finally congeal.
  • ENJOY!
