THE ONLY BASIC STEEL-CUT OATS RECIPE YOU'LL EVER NEED
Our foolproof, basic steel-cut oatmeal recipe is the perfect building block for an ultra-nutritious breakfast. Memorize the ratio-3 parts liquid to 1 part oats-then customize your bowl with a delicious array of fresh toppings. Cinnamon and honey keep things sweet and simple, but there's plenty of space to spice up your bowl with exotic combos-try cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, or ginger. And yes, steel-cut oats take longer to cook than other types of oats, but their toothsome texture and nutty flavor make them well-worth the effort. Best of all, they reheat beautifully, so you can easily cook up a big batch ahead of time. For a richer, nuttier flavor, try toasting your oats in the pan first. Keep the heat at medium-low and stir constantly to prevent burning. Short on time? Our basic oatmeal recipe is your go-to healthy breakfast for busy mornings.

- Spray a 7-quart slow cooker with cooking spray and line it with parchment paper, leaving enough extra to act as a handle. I just trace my slow cooker insert, and then cut the tracing out a little bigger!
- Place the peanut butter and honey in a large, microwave-safe bowl and microwave until melted, about 1 minute. Whisk together.
- Add in the almond milk, banana and cinnamon and whisk again. Finally, whisk in the eggs until well combined.
- Stir in the raisins, banana chips, steel cut oats, peanuts and cacao nibs and pour into the slow cooker. Make sure to kind of spread all mix-ins around so each bar has lots of yumminess!

- Combine all ingredients into a mixing bowl and stir together until well combined. You can either stir by hand with a wooden spoon or spatula OR use a handmixer and beat on LOW speed until combined. Increasing speed as needed. The mixture is thick so it will take a few minutes to fully mix it all together.
- Roll into balls. I use a small cookie scoop to get even sized energy balls, which holds about 1 tablespoon of the energy ball dough. TIP : If you are having difficulty getting the mixture to roll into a ball, try pressing the energy ball dough between your fingers (to loosen it up/warm it up) and then roll into a ball. TIP : If the energy ball dough is too sticky, which it will be naturally as there is honey in it, try refrigerting for about 20 minutes to see if that helps.
- Eat right away or you can refrigerate for a couple of hours if you want to serve them cold. I think they're best tasting when they are cold so I always make them before I need them (like for after school) so they have time to refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours.
