SPOOKY EDIBLE EYES
Steps:
- Combine one package of gelatin with the milk and bloom for five minutes.
- In a small saucepan, combine half a cup of water with the sugar and coconut extract and bring to a boil. Combine with the gelatin mixture and stir until all solids dissolve. Lubricate molds with oil and pour in gelatin mixture. Refrigerate for one hour. Gently tap and shake to unmold.
- For the iris, combine remaining gelatin with 1/4 cup of water and bloom for five minutes. In a small saucepan, bring the remaining water to a boil. Remove and gently stir into gelatin mixture until solids dissolve. Create the colors of your choice using the food coloring kit. Using an eyedropper, fill the indentation of the eyeballs with the colored gelatin. It will set within moments of contact with the cold gelatin.
- In a small ramekin, mix one drop of each color to create black for the pupil. Dip a toothpick into the black and paint the center of the iris. To achieve bloodshot eyes, use red food coloring and brush with a cotton swab around the base of each eyeball.

HALLOWEEN FOOD: 12 FUN IDEAS FOR EDIBLE EYES - EATS AMAZING.

- Eyeball Sandwich Balls - Children love a bit of gory fun, and you can't get much more gory than eyeballs for lunch! Make up a bigger batch for a fun new way of presenting sandwiches for Halloween party food, or just serve some up as snack.
- Rice (Eye)balls - Shaped rice is a staple food in traditional Japanese bento boxes, and a simple ball of rice is one of the easiest shapes to achieve, with no special equipment needed.
- Eyeball Quesadilla - Quesadillas are really easy to make and a great way of using up scraps of food left over from making bento lunches. I made this one for last Halloween, turning it into an eyeball by cutting it into a circle, adding a carrot disk dotted with a black edible marker pen and drawing on the 'veins' with a red edible marker pen.
- Mozzarella Pearl Eyeballs - Mozzarella pearls are available in most large supermarkets, and their ready-made ball shape makes them the perfect instant edible eyeball!
- Icing Eyes - I had trouble finding these here in the UK, but I finally got around to making my own recently, and it was far easier than I expected! For my easy DIY icing eyes tutorial, see the original blog post here.
- Mini Marshmallow Eyes - I was really pleased to discover recently that mini marshmallows make great instant edible eyes! Simply cut them in half, dot them with an edible marker pen and stick them onto whatever food you want to decorate - with the right foods (such as fruit) they are even self-adhesive!
- Babybel Eyes - I often use mini Babybel cheeses to add fun eyes to creative sandwiches. To make, simply cut the cheese in half, leaving the wax intact, and top with blueberries or raisins.
- Cheddar Cheese Eyes - One of the most simple ways to add edible eyes to a sandwich or other savoury food is to cut ovals or circles from cheddar cheese (or other hard cheese) using mini bento cutters and dot them with food colouring or an edible marker pen.
- Marshmallow Eyeballs - These eyeballs are a fun treat to make with children and would be great for a Halloween party! For full details and my recipe see the original blog post here.
- Frozen Yoghurt Eyeballs - Halloween desserts don't have to be full of sugar - these gory edible eyeballs are made from frozen natural yoghurt and raisins.

- Bloody Truffles. These oozing truffles are bloody delicious! The bite-sized treats are skewered with edible royal icing knives and painted with food coloring to create scary—yet sweet—Halloween truffles.
- Bloody Caramel Apples. These caramel apples are easy to whip up, but the red gel "blood" makes them totally eye-catching and perfect for a spooky themed party.
- Skeleton Coffin Candy Bars. Coffin candy bars are a killer treat to offer guests on Halloween. Place a skeleton on top of homemade chocolate bars and finish them off with a dusting of Oreo cookie "dirt."
- Frankenstein Marshmallow Pops. Frankenstein pops are a monster of a good Halloween candy and they're very simple to make: store-bought marshmallows are skewered on lollipop sticks, then decorated with melted candy coating to look like the scary green monster.
- White Chocolate Ghosts. These tasty white chocolate ghosts are riding on crunchy pretzel broomsticks for an extra-spooky snack that's both sweet and savory.
- Meringue Ghosts. These ghoulish figures are actually fluffy-on-the-inside, crispy-on-the-outside meringues dipped in chocolate and formed into Halloween-worthy treats.
- Ghost Cake Pops. Cake pops get a spooky makeover into Halloween ghouls with a simple four-ingredient recipe you can whip up on Halloween. Tender bites of cake are shaped into ghosts, skewered on lollipop sticks, then dipped in vanilla candy coating for a fun Halloween version of the kid-friendly treat.
- Ghost Strawberries. Ghost-shaped strawberries are so easy, it's scary. Instead of dipping the fruit in the traditional semi-sweet chocolate, they're dunked into white chocolate instead and given ghostly faces with dark chocolate.
- Witch Finger Pretzel Rods. Witch finger pretzel rods are one spectacularly spooky sweet-and-salty treat for Halloween or any wizard-themed party. It takes just four ingredients to whip up and it's simple enough for kids to lend a hand (or at least a finger).
- Spiderwebs Candy. If candy spiders aren't your style, how about these edible spiderwebs instead? Strands of white chocolate are laced around pretzels sticks and a fat eight-legged bug happily sits in the center.
