This lemon garlic baked tilapia is super easy to make and comes together in under 20 minutes. It's low carb, gluten-free, keto-friendly, and very flavorful. Here is how to make it.

4-6 medium sized (1½ - 2 lb) tilapia fillets
1 tablespoon lemon juice
3 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon hot paprika (or Kashmiri red chili powder. Use regular paprika for non spicy.)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
1 lemon (cut into thin slices)
2 tablespoons chopped parsley

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Wash 4-5 medium-sized tilapia fillets with water and pat them dry using a paper towel. Line the tilapia fillets on a 9×13 inch baking tray.
  • Note - if using frozen fillets, thaw them before using.
  • Stir together 1 tbsp lemon juice, 3 tbsp melted unsalted butter, 1 tsp minced garlic, ½ tsp hot paprika (or Kashmiri red chili powder), ½ tsp salt, and ½ tsp freshly cracked black pepper in a small mixing bowl.
  • Pour the marinade over the Tilapia fillets. Arrange 3-4 slices of lemon over the fish.
  • Bake uncovered for 15-20 minutes or until the fish is flaky and fork-tender. Garnish with pepper flakes, lemon slices, and chopped parsley or cilantro, and serve hot.

Tilapia, a relatively plentiful fish, has the unfortunate reputation of being dull. All it needs is a spice rub, a familiar barbecuing technique that works just as well indoors. You could also use this rub on chicken breasts or toss it with lightly oiled shrimp before cooking.

2 pounds asparagus, tough ends trimmed, cut into 1-inch pieces
2 tablespoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic, powder
½ teaspoon salt, divided
1 pound tilapia, Pacific sole or other firm white fish fillets
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
3 tablespoons lemon juice

Steps:

  • Bring 1 inch of water to a boil in a large saucepan. Put asparagus in a steamer basket, place in the pan, cover and steam until tender-crisp, about 4 minutes. Transfer to a large plate, spreading out to cool.
  • Combine chili powder, garlic powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt on a plate. Dredge fillets in the spice mixture to coat. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the fish and cook until just opaque in the center, gently turning halfway, 5 to 7 minutes total. Divide among 4 plates. Immediately add lemon juice, the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt and asparagus to the pan and cook, stirring constantly, until the asparagus is coated and heated through, about 2 minutes. Serve the asparagus with the fish.

3 tablespoons olive oil
1 Meyer lemon sliced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1// teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
2 tilapia fillets
3-4 tablespoons sliced black and green olives
1 tablespoon sambol oelek
Cilantro for garnish
2 teaspoons honey

Steps:

  • Place the Meyer lemon slices in a pan with the olive oil, sprinkle with the salt and sugar and let cook over a low flame for 12-15 minutes
  • Meanwhile, mix the cayenne, cumin, and paprika and coat the tilapia with this spice rub
  • Place the tilapia into the lemon/sugar/salt mixture and turn heat up a tad - if needed add a tablespoon or so more olive oil. Let tilapia cook about 5-7 minutes (depending on thickness) and flip and let cook another 5 or so minutes till both sides are golden and fish is firm.
  • Add in the olives
  • Then take tilapia and olives and lemon out of the pan and place on a plate
  • To the same pan, add the sambol oelek and honey and let mix together over a low flame for about 3-4 minutes. Spoon this over the tilapia and garnish it with cilantro.
  • Serve with rice or naan
