BBQ TOFU MARINADE (BAKED BBQ TOFU)

If you're on the hunt for a creative vegetarian dinner recipe, look no further! This BBQ tofu marinade is easy to make and full of sweet and savory flavor!

1 tbsp oil
1/4 cup BBQ sauce
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tsp onion powder
2 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp garlic salt
1 block of extra firm tofu

Steps:

  • Press the tofu in a tofu press like the EZ Tofu Press for 10-12 minutes, tightening the knobs every 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the oil, BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, and spices to a bowl and whisk to combine.
  • Pour the sauce into a gallon sized zip lock bag.
  • Remove the tofu from the tofu press and cut into small bite-sized chunks.
  • Place the tofu squares into the zip lock bag and gently toss them in the marinade to coat.
  • Allow the tofu to marinate for 20 minutes.
  • Line a lipped baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the tofu over the parchment in a single layer.
  • Bake the tofu at 400 degrees for 30 minutes, flipping the tofu after 15 minutes to ensure that it cooks evenly.

1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon brown sugar
2 tablespoons mirin (sweet Japanese rice wine)
1 to 2 garlic cloves, to taste, minced or puréed
1 tablespoon minced or grated fresh ginger
1 teaspoon Asian chili paste or cayenne to taste
2 tablespoons dark sesame oil

Steps:

  • Whisk together all of the ingredients in a bowl. Use as a marinade and/or dipping sauce for pan-seared, grilled or plain tofu.

  • Start by pressing your tofu. I will link to my tofu guide below if you would like a step by step of that process. Press the block of tofu for at least 30 minutes, the longer the better. You can even do it in the morning before you plan to make it.

  • Now, heat a little bit of oil at the bottom of a non stick pan on medium high. Add the tofu to the pan, don't over crowd it, if the pan is too small to fit all of it, do it in two batches.
