GINGER SPICE COFFEE - QISHR



Ginger Spice Coffee - Qishr image

Ginger coffee hails from Yemen and rivals any flavored coffee that comes from the coffee shops. It is sweetened with sugar and ground ginger is added. I have added other spices that I enjoy.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 1/2 cups water
2 -3 teaspoons extra fine ground coffee (should be almost a powder)
4 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon ground ginger (or to taste)
1/4 teaspoon cardamom
1/4 teaspoon allspice

Steps:

  • In an ibrik or small saucepan combine all ingredients.
  • Bring to a boil and remove from heat.
  • Once the coffee stops bubbling, place back onto stove.
  • top and allow to come to a boil.
  • Remove from heat and repeat.
  • Serve in demitasse cups, being sure to allow the coffee to sit for a minute before serving to allow the grinds to fall to the bottom.

1/2 cup molasses
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground ginger
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
EACH SERVING:
1 cup hot brewed coffee
Milk, whipped cream and additional ground cinnamon, optional

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the molasses, brown sugar, ginger and cinnamon., For each serving, place 2 teaspoons molasses mixture in a mug. Add 1 cup hot coffee; stir until combined. Serve with milk, whipped cream and cinnamon if desired. , Cover and store remaining molasses mixture in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

½ cup molasses
¼ cup brown sugar
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground ginger
¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
6 cups hot brewed coffee
1 cup half-and-half cream
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 ½ cups sweetened whipped cream

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, mix together the molasses, brown sugar, baking soda, ginger and cinnamon until well blended. Cover and refrigerate for at least 10 minutes.
  • Add about a 1/4 cup of coffee to each cup, then stir in about a tablespoon of the spice mixture until dissolved. Fill cup to within an inch of the top with coffee. Stir in half and half to taste, then garnish with whipped cream and a light dusting of cloves.

1 tablespoon grated orange zest
1 tablespoon chopped crystallized ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
6 cups cold water
Whipped cream, cinnamon sticks and/or additional orange zest, optional

Steps:

  • Combine the coffee, orange zest, ginger and cinnamon. Place in a coffee filter and brew with the cold water according to manufacturer's directions. , Pour into mugs; if desired, garnish with whipped cream, cinnamon sticks and orange zest.
