WASSAIL

Steps:

• In a punch bowl or pitcher large enough to blend 7 quarts, pour the rums, sparkling apple cider, and mango juice. Stir to blend liquids. With a ladle, pour wassail into individual goblets.

SPARKLING CIDER

Steps:

• Combine the apple cider and whiskey in a small pitcher. Fill the champagne glasses 2/3 up with the cider and whiskey mix. Top each glass with sparkling wine and garnish with a few frozen cranberries.

• In any glass you can find, combine rum and apple cider. Use ice if it is available, if not whatever. Make the drink anyway. Makes 1 cocktail. Refill glass as needed to help you survive your holiday functions. Note this drink will work in any situation where there is sparking apple cider (not just family affairs). And if there isn't any sparkling apple cider around, well just drink your spiced rum straight from the flask. We won't tell.

SPICED APPLE

Steps:

• Stir together the ginger ale, apple cider and cranberry juice in a large pitcher. Pour over ice filled glasses and garnish each with a slice of orange. Pour 1 ounce of rum in each drink if desired.

BUTTERED APPLE CIDER

Steps:

• Mix 1 stick softened butter, 1/4 cup light brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon each ground nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves until combined. Put the butter on a piece of plastic wrap and roll into a 1-inch-thick log; wrap and chill 1 hour. Pour 3 cups apple cider into a slow cooker; cover and heat on high for 1 hour. Divide 1 cup bourbon among 6 glasses. Top each with hot cider and a slice of the spiced butter.
• If you don't have a slow cooker, keep these drinks warm in a saucepan on the stovetop over low heat.
