  • Broil a few inches from the heat for 5 to 8 minutes, or until the bacon is crisp. Watch carefully so the burgers do not burn.

BROILED BURGERS WITH SPAM®

Broiled Burgers with SPAM® image

Here's a unique recipe that has been in my spouse's family for 3 generations. It was probably created during World War II as a new way to prepare SPAM®, which was widely used in that time of shortages and rationing. These open-faced sandwiches are delicious and economical and are loved by his entire family. They are great for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

SPAMBURGER

Spamburger image

This Spamburger is a quick, easy, and tasty sandwich that the kids think is a gourmet meal. During the Second World War, Spam was often the only meat available in Hawaii. The people there made the best of of what they could get and they developed numerous recipes that utilized Spam as the featured ingredient. Even today Spam is an important item in the diet of the Hawaiian people. More Spam is eaten per person there than anywhere else in the United States.
