Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degree C).
- Place the sliced apples in a 9x13 inch pan. Mix the white sugar, 1 tablespoon flour and ground cinnamon together, and sprinkle over apples. Pour water evenly over all.
- Combine the oats, 1 cup flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter together. Crumble evenly over the apple mixture.
- Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 45 minutes.

GRANDMA'S SOUR CREAM APPLE SQUARES
Grandma's Sour Cream Apple Squares is an old-fashioned dessert that will have your family begging for more. These delicious bars have two layers including a creamy apple layer and a sweet brown sugar crust. Serve these with whipped cream just like our Grandma did.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- With a mixer, blend flour, brown sugar and softened butter until crumbly. The consistency should be that of sand; stir in chopped nuts.
- Press 2 3/4 cups of the mixture into an ungreased 9x13 inch pan.
- To the remaining mixture, add cinnamon, baking soda, salt, sour cream, vanilla and egg; blend well. Stir in apples.
- Spoon evenly over the base in pan.
- Bake for 25 to 35 minutes or until golden brown, and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cut into squares, and serve with whipped cream if desired.
SOUR CREAM APPLE SQUARES
Mom and I formulated this recipe back in the '50s after visiting a friend's farm where they made the most delicious sour cream ever. Our first try was perfect, and these apple squares soon became a favorite to serve at social functions. Years ago, we made six pans of these squares when a young Johnny Carson presented his magic show at our card club!

Press about 2-3/4 cups into an ungreased 13x9-in. baking pan. , To the remaining crumb mixture, add the cinnamon, baking soda, salt, sour cream, vanilla and egg. Beat until thoroughly combined. Stir in apples. Spoon evenly over crust. Bake at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Cut into squares. - Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease a 9x 13 baking pan. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Stir in melted butter, sour cream and eggs. Pour and scrape the batter into the prepared pan. Lay the diced apples on top of the batter, spacing them evenly across the entire surface.
- Make the crumb topping: Combine flour, brown sugar, melted butter, walnuts salt and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Stir until all the ingredients are incorporated. Drop dollops of the crumb topping all over the apples, distributing them evenly.
- Bake the cake for 35-40 minutes, or until the cake is set and a toothpick inserted at the center of the cake comes out clean. Let the cake cool slightly, then drizzle the brown sugar glaze all over the cake.
- In a medium saucepan bring the brown sugar and water to boil. Let it simmer until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture has thickened slightly. Stir in the vanilla extract. Drizzle over the cake.

- Combine butter and brown sugar in large bowl
- Beat at medium speed until creamy
- Add remaining crust ingredients and beat until well mixed
- Press HALF of crust mixture onto bottom of ungreased 13 x 9 pan
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until light golden brown
- While crust is baking combine the filling ingredients; mix well
- Gently pour the filling over the hot, partially baked crust
- Crumble the remaining crust mixture over the top of the fill and press down lightly
- Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set
- Cool
- Cut into bars
- Store refrigerated
