FRIENDSHIP SOUP MIX IN A JAR

Steps:

• In a 1 1/2 pint jar, layer the split peas, bouillon, barley, lentils, onion flakes, Italian seasoning, rice, and bay leaves. Wrap the pasta in plastic wrap, and place in the jar. Seal tightly.
• Attach a label to the jar with the following instructions: Friendship Soup ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS: 1 pound ground beef, black pepper to taste, garlic powder to taste, 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes - undrained, 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste, and 3 quarts water. TO PREPARE SOUP: Remove pasta from top of jar, and set aside. In a large pot over medium heat, brown beef with pepper and garlic; drain excess fat. Add diced tomatoes, tomato paste, water, and soup mix. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover, and simmer for 45 minutes. Stir in the pasta, cover, and simmer 15 to 20 minutes, or until the pasta, peas, lentils and barley are tender.

COUNTRY SOUP IN A JAR

Steps:

• In a wide mouth 1 quart jar, layer the barley, peas, rice and lentils. Then layer around the edges the onion, parsley, salt, lemon pepper, bouillon and the alphabet pasta. Fill the rest of the jar with the twist macaroni.
• Seal and attach a gift card. The gift card should read: Add contents of jar to 3 quarts of water, 2 stalks of chopped celery, 2 sliced carrots, 1 cup of shredded cabbage (optional) and 2 cups diced tomatoes. Over medium low heat, cover and simmer about 1 hour, or until vegetables are tender.

MINESTRONE SOUP GIFT MIX IN A JAR

Steps:

• Directions:.
• In a two-cup jar, layer from bottom in the order given, then seal the jar.
• Include these instructions on your gift tag:.
• In a very large saucepan, combine 8-10 cups of water, a 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes and soup mix.
• Add 2 chopped carrots, and 2-4 chopped potatoes (optional 2 cups chopped cabbage).
• Bring to a boil; reduce heat and cover and simmer for one hour or until peas are tender -- .

FRIENDSHIP SOUP GIFT MIX IN A JAR

Steps:

• To avoid the sifting of seasonings through the beans, layer ingredients in the jar in this order: onion, ½ cup split peas, rice, ½ cup lentils, beef granules, ½ cup split peas, barley, ½ cup lentils, Italian seasoning, and pasta. Optional: place pasta in a small storage bag to make easy to remove.
• Seal and attach a gift tag.

SOUP GIFT JAR

Steps:

• Layer ingredients in a quart jar in the order given.
• Then place the following note on the jar:.
• "When you are in a hurry for a good meal,here is a good deal;.
• Take 1 pound of ground round and fry until browned;
• Without haste or waste, add 14 cups of water; bring to boil.
• Add contents of this jar and cook until tender, season to taste.
• Add vegetables or tomatoes for flavor.
• When you eat the above, Remember you are loved.".

BEAN SOUP MIX IN A JAR

Steps:

• In pint size (500 ml) jar, layer beans and peas in order listed above or as you prefer.
• In small bowl, mix remainder of ingredients. Place in a small plastic bag or wrap well in plastic wrap to keep separate from beans and peas.
• Place spice pack on top of beans and peas. Seal jar.
• Decorate, label and include Cooking Directions.

• Also Needed:14 oz can diced tomatoes
• Remove spice pack.
• Rinse remainder of ingredients well, then drain.
• Place bean mix in pot and add 6 cups water and bring to boil. Boil for 10 minutes to remove any toxins from beans.
• Remove from heat and let stand for 1 hour. Drain, rinse, drain.
• Return to pot, add 7 cups water, 1 can (14 oz/398 ml) diced tomatoes, spice mix and bay leaf.
• Bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1 to 11/2 hours.
• Adjust seasoning to taste, remove bay leaf and garnish with fresh parsley.
• Makes 9 cups.

JUST-ADD-WATER GARDEN VEGETABLE SOUP IN A JAR

Steps:

• Layer the dehydrated ingredients in a 1-quart canning jar in order: potatoes, onions, green onions, tomatoes, summer squash, carrots, zucchini, cabbage, vegetable stock. The jar should be filled to the top, and it's okay to push the ingredients down in order to fit them all. Alternatively, you can package the dried soup mix in zip-lock plastic storage bags or vacuum-sealed bags. In this case, you won't be able to layer the mixture.
• Label the jar with the date and contents. Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
• To make the soup, combine the soup mix with 16 cups (4 quarts) of water in a large pot, bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and simmer until the vegetables are tender and the soup thickened, about 3 hours. Or combine the soup mix and water in a slow cooker and cook on low for 6 hours.
