Ultimate Jersey Ripper image

A ripper is a local Jersey term for hot dogs that are deep-fried. The term is used to describe the ripping of the hot dog skin when bathed in hot oil. Add bacon, corn chips, and onions in sauce and you've got yourself the Ultimate Jersey Ripper.

vegetable oil for frying
8 all-beef hot dogs
8 slices bacon
16 toothpicks
1 (16 ounce) jar pushcart-style onions in sauce
8 hot dog rolls
1 (8 ounce) package corn chips, crushed

Steps:

  • Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Wrap each hot dog with a slice of bacon, securing ends with toothpicks. Fry hot dogs 2 at a time in hot oil until they float to the surface, 3 to 4 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  • Pour onions into a small pot over low heat. Stir until heated through, about 5 minutes.
  • Arrange fried hot dogs in rolls. Garnish with onions and crushed corn chips.

These chili cheese dogs are a must-have for game day, a potluck, or a midnight snack!

2 cups homemade chili below (or canned chili or leftover chili)
¼ cup hot water
8 hot dogs
8 hot dog buns (large bakery, unsliced)
1 tablespoon butter (softened )
2 cups cheddar cheese (shredded)
onions, pickles, and jalapenos (for topping)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Combine chili, hot water and hotdogs in a skillet over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and let cook 5-7 minutes or until chili has thickened. (see note for homemade chili below).
  • While chili is thickening, cut the hotdogs buns from the top and brush with butter. Bake 5 minutes.
  • Fill each bun with a hot dog and spoon chili on top. Top with shredded cheese and bake 15 minutes or until buns are toasted and cheese is melted.

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup chili sauce
12 beef hot dogs
12 hot dog buns

Steps:

  • Mix al ingredients except hot dogs and buns in a saucepan. Add hot dogs and simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve hot dogs and sauce on buns.

4 hot dogs
4 poppy seed buns
1 1/2 cups slced white mushrooms
3/8 cup salted butter
2 tablespoons tarragon vinegar
2 tablespoons fresh tarragon
1 small onion, diced
1 wheel brie cheese, chopped
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon condensed chicken broth

Steps:

  • Heat butter in a skillet. stir in stock, tarragon, vinegar and sugar. Saute mushrooms and onions for about five minutes.
  • add Brie and simmer about three more.
  • in the meantime boil hot dogs five minutes and then place in grill pan for three.
  • add hot dogs to buns and load up on mushroom topping.
