SLOW COOKER SPICED APPLESAUCE (CROCK POT)
A beautiful fall recipe from Gooseberry Patch's new book, "Autumn with Family & Friends". The house will smell wonderful when you walk in at the end of the day! You can enjoy this on its own with a sprinkle of cinnamon-sugar or serve it with baked pork chops. Enjoy!

Steps:
- Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker; stir to mix.
- Cover and cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours, or on high setting for 3 to 4 hours.
- When done, stir with a wooden spoon. Gently crush applesauce against side of slow cooker to desired consistency.

SLOW COOKER PUMPKIN APPLESAUCE
Pumpkin and apples slow cooked together to make a dreamy applesauce.

Steps:
- Peel, core and slice the apples. Add the apples to the slow cooker.
- Add the can of pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla and apple juice.
- Stir.
- Cover and cook on high for 5 hours or low for 8 hours.
- When the cooking time is done stir with a whisk until the desired smoothness is desired. Add brown sugar to taste, I used a half cup of brown sugar.
- Store leftovers in fridge or freezer. This is not a canning recipe.

- Place apples in bowl of slow cooker until full. Add sugar and cinnamon, stir. Pour water over apples and cover.
- Cook on low for 6-8 hours, stirring occasionally. At the end of your cooking time, you should have a chunky applesauce in your pot. If your family prefers a very smooth consistency, just use an immersion blender to puree, or transfer applesauce to a large blender to puree until the sauce reaches desired consistency.

- Place the quartered apples and water/apple juice in a large slow cooker (16 quart or more). Cover and cook on "low" for 6-8 hours, stirring every hour or so. As the apples cook down they will shrink.
- During the last few hours of cooking, stir in the cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. When the apples are fully cooked, pass the mixture through a food mill to remove skins and seeds. Alternately, you can puree it in a food processor and pass it through a mesh strainer.
- Ladle the applesauce into sterilized jars, leaving ½ inch headspace. Cover with lids and screw on bands. Process in a waterbath for 15 minutes (pints) or 20 minutes (quarts).
- Let cool completely and make sure the jars are sealed before storing in a cool dark place, like a pantry.
