Time 4h20m

Yield 112

Number Of Ingredients 6

12 apples - peeled, cored, and cut into small cubes
2 cups brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground allspice
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground cloves

Steps:

  • Combine apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and cloves in a slow cooker.
  • Cook on High until the apples are tender enough to easily mash with a fork, 4 to 6 hours.
  • Puree apple mixture with an immersion blender until smooth.
  • Sterilize the jars and lids in boiling water for at least 5 minutes. Pack apple butter into the hot, sterilized jars, filling the jars to within 1/4 inch of the top. Run a knife or a thin spatula around the insides of the jars after they have been filled to remove any air bubbles. Wipe the rims of the jars with a moist paper towel to remove any food residue. Top with lids, and screw on rings.
  • Place a rack in the bottom of a large stockpot and fill halfway with water. Bring to a boil and lower jars into the boiling water using a holder. Leave a 2-inch space between the jars. Pour in more boiling water if necessary to bring the water level to at least 1 inch above the tops of the jars. Bring the water to a rolling boil, cover the pot, and process for 10 minutes.
  • Remove the jars from the stockpot and place onto a cloth-covered or wood surface, several inches apart, until cool. Once cool, press the top of each lid with a finger, ensuring that the seal is tight (lid does not move up or down at all). Store in a cool, dark area.

SPICED PEAR BUTTER

Spiced Pear Butter image

A delicious, naturally low-sugar treat! The orange and spices are wonderful... the trick is to not let them overpower the pears. The lemon adds a brightness to the flavor, while the vanilla is balancing. Spread over toast or with meats such as ham, pork chops, or chicken. Makes an excellent gift too. Place improperly sealed or open jars in refrigerator and use within the month.

Time P1DT2h45m

Yield 40

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 pounds ripe pears - unpeeled, quartered, and cored
½ cup water
1 ½ cups agave nectar
⅓ cup fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon orange zest
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
⅛ teaspoon allspice

Steps:

  • Place pears and 1/2 cup water in a large saucepan over medium heat. Cook until softened, about 20 minutes. Transfer pears to a blender or food processor; puree until smooth but not liquefied.
  • Return pear puree to the saucepan. Add agave nectar, lemon juice, orange zest, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. Reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer pear butter until thickened, stirring frequently, 70 to 90 minutes.
  • Wash and rinse six 1/2-pint jars, lids and rings; let jars and rings dry on a rack. Immerse lids in a dish of boiling water.
  • Fill a large canning pot with water. Bring to a boil; cover and keep simmering.
  • Fill the dry jars to 1/2 inch from the top with hot pear butter using a ladle and canning funnel. Wipe rims clean. Pick up lids using tongs; cap jars and screw on the rings. Use canning tongs to completely immerse jars into the pot of boiling water. Cover pot; boil jars for 10 minutes.
  • Remove jars with your tongs. Let cool, about 24 hours. Check seals to make sure lids have sucked down; listen for a popping sound. Label jars and store.

Provided by Marta Rivera

Categories     Breakfast     Brunch     Miscellany

Time 8h10m

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 pounds (6 or 1 1/2 kilograms) apples ((Gala and Honeycrisp), roughly chopped)
1 pound (3 or 660 grams) pears ((Bartlett, Comice, or Anjou), stems removed and roughly chopped)
1/2 cup (125 milliliters apple cider
1/2 cup (125 milliliters) apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup, packed (120 grams) dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon (3 grams) ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp (1 gram) ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon (1 gram) kosher salt
1 tsp vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Add the pear and apple chunks to a blender, along with the apple cider and the apple cider vinegar.
  • Blend the fruits with the liquids until smooth and no chunks remain, about 1 minute.
  • Pour the contents of the blender into a slow cooker. Add the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, kosher salt, and vanilla extract to the puree. Stir the spices and sugar, and vanilla into the apple pear mixture to combine.
  • Cover the slow cooker and set the temperature to high. Leave the cover of the slow cooker askew to allow steam to escape from the apple pear butter as it cooks.
  • Cook the apple pear butter for 8-12 hours, stirring the apple pear butter once every hour.
  • Once the apple pear butter is done, transfer it into clean mason jars or storage containers. If you do this while the apple pear butter is piping hot, the heat from it will help vacuum seal the lids on the jars.
  • Store in the fridge for up to one month.Use it as a spread, topping, or mixed into your favorite recipes.

SPICED CROCK POT PEAR BUTTER | COMEBACK MOMMA
2019-08-15 Many recipes out there will lead you to believe you’ll have this insanely thick pear butter straight out of the slow cooker, and it’s generally just not the case. Because of the way a crock pot works with the lid on (which retains moisture), liquids really don’t reduce – at least not in the normal slow cooking time frames. When I make this crock pot pear butter…

EASY PEAR BUTTER IN THE SLOW COOKER - TEASPOON OF SPICE
2019-09-27 Make easy pear butter in the slow cooker and make your toast happy! Sweet pears and spices cook down together for spreadable fruit. Pear Butter is also delicious on oatmeal, yogurt or ice cream. Here’s a happy thought. • Do not peel the pears (peels add flavor and nutrition!) Cut into 3/4-inch to 1-inch chunks. Add to slow cooker along with 1/2-cup water, lime juice, brown sugar, ginger and lime peel.
  • Turn slow cooker on to HIGH and cook for 3-4 hours, stirring once every hour. Cook until pears are soft (time to reach soft texture will depend on the ripeness of your pears).
  • When soft, remove pears from liquid with a slotted spoon and place in a blender (or a bowl and use a stick/immersion blender). Puree until smooth. If the texture is just a bit too runny, cook on the stove to evaporate some liquid. (I did not have to do this, and my pear butter was still spreadable.)

SPICED APPLE & PEAR BUTTER - BLUEBONNET BAKER
2020-04-16 Spiced Apple and Pear butter is kind of becoming my canning specialty. Fruit butters are great for canning because there's no messing around with any jelling agents or pressure canning. Just straightforward fruit, sugar, spices, and a water bath canner. Typically, I cook up a batch of this in the slow cooker over a few days and then can it in 4 or 8 oz jars.
