1 1/2 lbs tenderized round steaks
2 tablespoons oil
2 large onions, sliced thin
1 (4 ounce) can mushrooms, including liquid
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup dry sherry
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 dash cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Cut steaks into thin strips and brown in oil.
  • Remove steak and set aside.
  • Add onions to drippings and saute until tender crisp.
  • Mix soup, sherry, mushrooms with liquid and seasonings.
  • Add browned steak and soup mix to onions in pot and reduce heat.
  • Cover and simmer 1 hour or until tender.
  • May be served over noodles or toast points.

I love the words simple and elegant in the same title! This recipe is so simple but it is special enough for a dinner party. I have cooked this recipe a hundred times over the years and it always brings raves and requests for the recipe.

11/2 lb tenderized round steak
11/2 Tbsp vegtable oil
2 large onions sliced into rings
1 can(s) sliced mushrooms (4 oz.) drain and reserve liquid
1 can(s) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 c dry sherry
11/2 tsp garlic salt
3 c hot rice

Steps:

  • 1. Cut steak into thin strips. In a large skillet brown steak in oil over high heat. Add onions. Saute until tender crisp. Blend soup, sherry, liquid from mushrooms and garlic salt. Pour over steak. Add mushrooms. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour or till steak is tender. (or cover and bake at 350) Serve over beds of fluffy rice.
