Steps:
- Place green beans, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper into a resealable plastic bag; marinate for 10 minutes.
- Set oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven's broiler.
- Spread green beans into a shallow baking pan; place under the broiler and cook until barely tender, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

- Preheat oven to 350°. In a small skillet, saute water chestnuts, onion and mushrooms in 2 tablespoons butter until onion is crisp-tender, 4-5 minutes; set aside. , In large skillet, melt remaining 4 tablespoons butter; stir in flour until smooth. Stir in milk, broth, soy sauce, pepper sauce and salt. Bring to a boil; cook and stir until thickened, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in green beans and cheese. , Spoon half of the bean mixture into a greased 1-1/2-qt. baking dish. Layer with water chestnut mixture and remaining bean mixture. , Bake, uncovered, 45 minutes. Top with french-fried onions. Bake until heated through, about 5 minutes longer.

Steps:
- Wash and snip the ends of green beans.
- In a pan, saute the onions and garlic until soft.
- Add the chopped tomato and a bit of water cook for 15 minutes, until mixture has become soft and well mixed together.
- Add the green beans, salt & pepper and seasoning salt. If water evaporated, add a little more to help beans cook.
- Cover and cook until beans are crisp yet tender, approximately 20 minutes.
- There should be some liquid, not much, spoon beans onto a platter, spooning tomato pieces on top of beans.
- You could garnish with toasted slivered almonds if you like.
- Serve next to your favorite entree.

Steps:
- Steam green beans in boiling water until crisp-tender (4-6 minutes).
- Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in skillet over medium heat, add walnuts, and toast in oil for about 3 minutes.
- Add green beans, salt and pepper.
- Sauté for about 3 more minutes.
- Add balsamic vinegar, toss with beans and walnuts to thoroughly coat.
- Remove from heat.
- Sprinkle with crumbled goat cheese, toss lightly and transfer to serving dish.

Meaty whole green beans combined with sautéed mushrooms and the crunch of water chestnuts in a rich and cheesy sauce. This truly is a fabulous side dish to serve on a special occasion! The original recipe made 8 servings.

- Preheat the oven to 350*C/180*F/ gas mark 4. Butter a 3 cup casserole dish. Set aside.
- Place your green beans in a bowl. Cover with boiling water. Set aside to thaw. Drain well and pat dry. Return to the bowl.
- Melt 1 TBS of butter in a skillet. Add the onions, mushrooms, and water chestnuts. Sauté until the onion and mushrooms are tender. Set aside.
- Melt the remaining butter in a saucepan. Add the flour and cook, stirring for about a minute. Slowly whisk in the milk and stock. Cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture comes to the boil and thickens. Whisk in the soy sauce and hot pepper sauce.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as required with salt and black pepper. Pour the sauce over the green beans in the bowl. Add the cheese and mix everything well together.
- Place half of the green beans in the casserole dish. Top with the onion/mushroom/chestnut mixture. Spoon the remaining green beans over top.
- Bake, uncovered, in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes. It should be bubbling. Sprinkle the crispy fried onions on top and bake for a further 5 to 8 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve hot.

- Steam the green beans for 7-9 minutes, just until soft. To accomplish this step, you have three options: 1/ Add the green beans to a steamer pot/basket (I have a pot like this, or use a steamer basket). 2/Fill a pot with about 2 cups of water, bring the water to a boil, add the green beans, and then cover the pot with a lid.
