HOT HONEY

Hot Honey image

It's easy to buy hot honey, but just as easy (in my opinion) to make it at home. Drizzle it over roasted meats or vegetables, or use it to spice up a salad dressing. You can also mix it into soft butter to serve over biscuits. Yum!

  • Old-Fashioned Hot Chocolate. One of the first recipes that you will want to try is old-fashioned hot chocolate. It is simple, takes just a few more minutes than a packet of cocoa, and is delightfully lush and creamy.
  • Authentic Mexican Hot Chocolate. Also called chocolate caliente, Mexican hot chocolate requires a particular type of chocolate. Chocolate de mesa (or "table chocolate") is dark cacao flavored with sugar and cinnamon, and the spice instantly upgrades the drink.
  • Viennese Hot Chocolate. The word "luscious" can barely begin to describe Viennese hot chocolate. It is rich and thick and requires just three common ingredients.
  • Spanish Hot Chocolate. These thick hot chocolate recipes are the epitome of "drinking chocolate" and are often served in small cups. Spanish hot chocolate is among the densest and it's nearly a national drink in Spain.
  • Dutch Hot Chocolate. Called warme chocolademelk, Dutch hot chocolate is a classic recipe from the Netherlands. It uses two types of chocolate—dark chips and Dutch cocoa—and doesn't skimp on the milk.
  • El Submarino. El submarino comes from Argentina, and it's a fun, interactive way to enjoy hot chocolate, especially with kids. For this recipe, you'll hold off on the chocolate and simply warm milk, sugar, and vanilla.
  • French Hot Chocolate. Chocolat chaud is the French take on hot chocolate. The French hot chocolate recipe is similar to others, though it's unique because it uses both water and milk.
  • Iced Hot Cocoa. Iced coffee is excellent, but have you tasted iced hot cocoa? It's just as satisfying and a perfect way to get your chocolate fix on a warmer day.
  • Hot Chocolate Mix. Making hot chocolate mix from scratch is unbelievably simple. It's a mix of a few common dry ingredients, including powdered milk, sugar, and cocoa powder.
  • Keto Hot Chocolate Mix. The keto hot chocolate mix skips the sugar, opting for an allulose or monkfruit sweetener instead. It's also dairy-free and vegan because it uses powdered coconut milk; be sure to mix it with hot water or plant-based milk.

  • To a small mixing bowl add sifted cacao or cocoa powder, almond butter, melted coconut oil, raw honey, and salt. Gently stir with a spoon to combine into a thick paste. NOTE: If doubling recipe, you can try combining your ingredients in a small food processor. Otherwise, a mixing bowl is easiest / quickest for making a single batch.
  • Depending on your nut butter consistency, type of sweetener, and if you use oil, you may need to play with your ratios. If too thin, add more cacao or cocoa powder. If too thick, thin with more honey or oil. You’re going for a fudge-like dough with some tackiness to it.
  • At this point you can choose to form it into balls by scooping out roughly 1-Tbsp amounts and rolling into balls (then dusting in cocoa powder to prevent sticking). Or, you can form it into a bar one of two ways: 1) Plop the mixture on one side of a piece of parchment paper, fold the parchment paper over and use a rolling pin to roll into a flat bar (~1/4 - 1/2 inch thick), then unfold parchment paper and use a spatula or similar tool to form into a square or rectangle. 2) If you're making a double batch, you can line a small loaf pan with parchment paper and press the mixture in, then top with another layer of parchment paper and use a flat-bottomed object to press the mixture into a flat bar. (A loaf pan is possible only with a larger batch size as single batches won’t fill but half of a loaf pan.)
  • Enjoy your bar as is (fudgy style!). Or, transfer your bar to the freezer to firm up for 20-30 minutes (we prefer ours cold).
