VEGETARIAN SLOPPY JOES

Vegetarian Sloppy Joes image

This is a combination of many recipes and experimentation. It has gotten the thumbs-up from all who have tried it so far. It can also be made with TVP, ground turkey, or even ground beef instead of tempeh.

TEMPEH SLOPPY JOES

Tempeh Sloppy Joes image

A healthy and easy vegan sandwich that tastes just like the classic and is quickly made in an Instant Pot. These Tempeh Sloppy Joes are hearty, satisfying, and delicious!

Provided by Meatless Makeovers

Categories     Entree

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 18

½ tsp Garlic Powder
½ tsp Chili Powder
½ tsp Smoked Paprika
½ tsp Ground Coriander
1 Tbsp Miso Paste
2 Tbsp Chili Sauce
1 Tbsp Vegan Worcestershire Sauce
2 Tbsps Maple Syrup
15 oz Tomato Sauce
2 Cups Vegetable Broth
1 Cup Dried Red Lentils
1 Package Tempeh (Crumbled)
1 Onion Diced
2 Cloves of Garlic (Minced)
1 Green Bell Pepper (Diced)
6 Sandwich Rolls or Hamburger Buns (GF if needed)
1 Avocado (Sliced)
1/2 Cup Radicchio (Sliced)

Steps:

  • Wash and prepare all fresh vegetables.
  • In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients for the sauce and stir until well combined.
  • Place all of the ingredients for the sloppy joes and the sauce into the Instant Pot. Set it to "pressure cooker" for 10 minutes, making sure the vent is sealed.
  • When it finishes cooking allow it to release its pressure naturally. When the pressure has released, open the Instant Pot and stir the sloppy joe. It can also be made on low in a slow cooker for 3 hours or on the stove top but we prefer the ease and quickness of our Instant Pot!
  • Serve warm on rolls (Gluten Free if needed) with avocado slices and radicchio, if desired. These sandwiches go great with chips and peperoncinis. Enjoy!
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.

SAUCY TEMPEH SLOPPY JOES

Saucy Tempeh Sloppy Joes image

I grew up eating sloppy joe sandwiches and can't get enough of the messy deliciousness. Even though I eat meatless once or twice a week, I still enjoy the rich and hearty flavor of meat. I use tempeh here, which is a fermented soy product that is high in protein and has a savory, nutty, earthy flavor. Its taste and texture work well in dishes that usually feature ground beef, making these tempeh sloppy joes a dinner winner. -Trisha Kruse, Eagle, Idaho

EASY TEMPEH SLOPPY JOES - SMARTERFITTER
2008-02-24 Because tempeh retains the whole bean, it is higher in protein and fiber than tofu. My easy tempeh recipe is an evolution of my Auntie Jo’s sloppy joes, a quintessential American food for sure, traditionally made with ground beef, onions, tomato sauce, and bbq seasoning, then slopped on a bun and eaten with lots of napkins.
