Number Of Ingredients 12

1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
Red paste food coloring
Miniature semisweet chocolate chips or sprinkles
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-1/3 cups confectioners' sugar, divided
3 tablespoons whole milk, divided
White nonpareils, sugar pearls and Red Hot candies

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Add milk and vanilla; mix well. Add flour and mix well. Remove 1-2/3 cups dough; tint red. Shape white dough into 12 balls, 3/4 in. each, 48 balls, 1/2 in. each. and 12 balls, 1/4 in. each. Shape red dough into 12 balls, 1-1/4 in. each, and 60 balls, 1/2 in. each., Place the 1-1/4 in. red balls on two ungreased baking sheets for the body of 12 Santas. Attach 3/4-in. white balls for heads. Attach four 1/2-in. red balls to each Santa for arms and legs. Attach 1/2 in. white balls to ends of arms and legs for hands and feet; lightly press together. , Shape remaining 1/2-in. red balls into hats. Attach 1/4-in. white balls to tips of hats. Place inverted chocolate chips or sprinkles for eyes., Bake until set, 12-15 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes; carefully remove from pans to wire racks (cookies will be fragile)., For icing, combine shortening and vanilla in a small bowl; mix well. Gradually add 1-1/3 cups confectioners' sugar; add 1 tablespoon milk. Gradually add remaining sugar and milk., Pipe a band of icing on hat, cuffs at hands and feet, and down the front and at bottom of jacket. Pipe swirls of icing on tip of hat and for beard. Sprinkle nonpareils and sugar pearls over icing on hat and beard. Place a Red Hot candy for nose.

These Santa faced, bell shaped Betty Crocker® Sugar cookies are decorated with coconut, icing, red sparkling sugar and candies - the perfect Christmas dessert for a timeless treat.

1 pouch Betty Crocker™ Sugar cookie mix
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 tablespoon Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 pouch (7 oz) Betty Crocker™ Decorating Cookie Icing white icing
1/2 cup flaked coconut
2 tablespoons Betty Crocker™ Decorating Cookie Icing red icing (from 7-oz pouch)
2 tablespoons coarse red sparkling sugar
24 brown candy-coated milk chocolate candies
12 red cinnamon candies

Steps:

  • In large bowl, stir cookie mix, butter, flour, egg and almond extract until soft dough forms. Shape dough into ball; flatten slightly. Wrap in plastic wrap; refrigerate 1 hour.
  • Heat oven to 375°F. Unwrap dough; on floured surface, roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with floured 4 3/4-inch bell-shaped cookie cutter. On ungreased cookie sheets, place cutouts 2 inches apart. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.
  • For each cookie, spread or pipe white icing onto bottom of bell for beard and mustache and onto top of bell for hat pom-pom; sprinkle with coconut. Pipe red icing under pom-pom for hat; sprinkle with red sugar. Use white icing to attach milk chocolate candies for eyes and cinnamon candies for nose. Use red icing for mouth and white icing for eyebrows. Let stand until set.

1-3/4 cups confectioners' sugar, divided
2 ounces almond paste
1-1/4 cups butter, softened
1 large egg, room temperature
1/4 cup 2% milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
ROYAL ICING AND DECORATIONS:
2 cups confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons water plus 2 teaspoons water
4-1/2 teaspoons meringue powder
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
Food coloring
Black nonpareil sprinkles
Pink luster dust, optional
Edible food writing pen
Chocolate frosting of your choice

Steps:

  • In the bowl of a food processor fitted with blade attachment, pulse 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar and almond paste until well mixed and texture resembles finely ground cornmeal. In a large bowl, cream butter and remaining 1-1/4 cups confectioners' sugar until light and fluffy. Add almond paste mixture and beat until fully incorporated. Beat in the egg, milk and vanilla. Combine flour and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour., Preheat oven to 375°. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4-in. thickness. Cut out using a floured 3-1/2-in. elf cookie cutter. Place 1 in. apart on parchment-lined baking sheets. Bake until light golden brown and firm, 7-8 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool., For icing, in a large bowl, combine confectioners' sugar, water, meringue powder and cream of tartar; beat on low speed just until blended. Beat on high until stiff peaks form, 4-5 minutes. Divide icing into thirds. Tint 1 portion of icing with red food coloring; tint second portion with desired food coloring for face. Leave remaining portion white. Place icings into piping bags fitted with fine round tips. Pipe icing onto cookies to create clothing, hat and face. While icing is still wet, place black sprinkles to create eyes. Let icing dry completely. If desired, dip a small brush into pink luster dust; tap off excess and dab onto cookies to create pink cheeks. Using leaf tip #67, pipe frosting to create ears. Using a small round tip, pipe icing to create nose. Using edible pen or round tip, draw mouth. Place chocolate frosting into a piping bag fitted with #14 star tip; pipe along top of face and rim of hat to create hair. Store in an airtight container.
