SOY-MAPLE GLAZED SALMON

Soy-Maple Glazed Salmon image

This Maple-Soy Glazed Salmon only requires FOUR ingredients and you wouldn't believe how amazing it tastes! I love when I have recipes like this that call for such minimal ingredients yet yield such delicious results.

Provided by Jaclyn

Categories     Main Course

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 (6 oz) skinless salmon fillets
1/3 cup real maple syrup*
3 Tbsp soy sauce ((not low-sodium))
2 cloves garlic (, minced)
Freshly ground black pepper and chopped green onions ((optional))

Steps:

  • In a mixing bowl whisk together maple syrup, soy sauce and garlic. Place salmon into a baking dish then pour maple syrup mixture evenly over salmon.
  • Cover and refrigerate 30 minutes, carefully rotating salmon once halfway through. Preheat oven to 400 degrees during last 10 minutes of marinating salmon.
  • Spray a 13 by 9 inch baking dish with cooking spray then transfer marinated salmon into greased dish (don't discard marinade). Bake in preheated oven until salmon is cooked through, about 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, pour marinade into a small saucepan, bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently. Once it reaches a boil, reduce heat slightly and allow to cook several minutes, stirring frequently, until reduced to 1/4 cup.
  • Serve salmon warm with 1 Tbsp of the maple soy glaze drizzled over top and black pepper and green onions if desired (I don't think it needed salt because of the soy but feel free to add it if you think it needs it).

  • Preheat oven or toaster oven to 425F. Line a pan with foil and spray with oil (for easy clean up). Or line with parchment paper.
  • MAKE GLAZE: In a small saucepan, stir together 2 teaspoons of a mix of orange-lemon-lime zest, orange juice (about 1/4-1/3 cup), 1 1/2 tablespoons of lemon-lime juice combination, maple syrup, Dijon mustard, a pinch of salt and chili flakes (if using). Bring to boil then lower to medium to simmer briskly for 5-7 minutes until mixture thickens a bit to become slightly syrupy. Taste and adjust, adding more citrus, syrup or Dijon as needed.
  • PREPARE AND ROAST SALMON: Place fillets on pan, skin side down. Sprinkle salmon generously with salt and pepper. Brush on a couple of tablespoons of glaze. Sprinkle on chopped onions. Roast for 10-12 minutes, depending on thickness of salmon. Rule of thumb is 10 minutes per inch of thickness. Brush on another 1/2 tablespoon of glaze half way through. Salmon should just be able to flake easily but still have a little translucency in the middle with a medium pink colour.
  • FINISH AND SERVE: To remove skin, slide a spatula between skin and salmon meat and lift off to a plate. Drizzle with remaining glaze. Garnish with remaining zest and toasted sesame seeds or chopped parsley if desired.

  • Cook the salmon on the first side for two minutes. Flip the fish and cover the pan with a lid. After three minutes, remove any skin by lifting it up with a knife and gently peeling it off with your fingers (if it's too hot, use a spatula.) Discard the skin.
  • Flip the fish again, and after a minute, check for doneness by seeing if it can be flaked with a fork. If so, turn off the heat. (Cooking time will depend on the thickness of your fish. Be sure to watch any thin pieces carefully and remove them when done, letting the thick pieces cook longer.)
