SACK POSSET (WARM SHERRY DRINK)



Sack Posset (warm Sherry Drink) image

This recipe is not for the cholesterol conscious nor if you are sugar intolerant but it is oh so good- Think of it as amedicinal nightcap - Good night Irene. Wonderful on a cold winter night. Because you bring the sherry to a boil most of the alcohol has burned off so it is not a high alcohol drink.

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup cream sherry
1 whole nutmeg
2 cups milk
5 egg yolks

Steps:

  • Put the sherry, sugar& nutmeg into a saucepan, bring to a boil and stir until the sugar melts In another saucepan scald the milk (watch you do not scorch the milk).
  • Put the egg yolks into a bowl and beat about 1/2 cup of the milk into them, then slowly add the rest of the scolded milk beating all the time Return mixture to the saucepan, mediem-low heat and cook until the mixture coats the back of a metal spoon Gradually add the sherry mixture, mix well but do not beat.
  • Heat through, remove nutmeg& serve.
