5-Minute Iced Rooibos Latte image

This 5-Minute Iced Rooibos Latte is caffeine-free, easy to make with your preferred kind of milk, and so refreshing and tasty.

Number Of Ingredients 6

3/4 cup water
2 rooibos tea bags
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
honey, to taste (optional)
ice
3/4 cup milk (I used almond milk)

Steps:

  • Heat water (in the microwave, or on the stovetop) until it comes to a simmer. Add tea bags and steep for 2-3 minutes. You want the tea to be nice and strong.
  • Remove and discard the tea bags.
  • Add in the vanilla and honey, and stir until the honey is completely dissolved. Add in the ice, followed by the milk, and stir (or if using a mason jar, shake) until combined.
  • Serve immediately.

Number Of Ingredients 9

6 cinnamon sticks
15 cloves
15 allspice berries
5 cardamom pods
15 black peppercorns
1/4 teaspoon dried ginger (more to make it spicy. You can also use fresh ginger. For a spicy version, cut 1 inch of plump ginge)
6 tablespoons of rooibos tea leaves
6 cups water
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract (from Madagascar)

Steps:

  • Crack the spices (excluding the cinnamon sticks and ginger). You can use a mortar and pestle, or a quick whiz in a coffee grinder.
  • . Add to a medium pot with the cinnamon sticks and ginger and add 6 cups of filtered water.
  • Bring to a boil and lower the heat to maintain a low simmer. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Strain. Add the vanilla extract.
  • This concentrate will keep up to 10 days in the refrigerator.
  • To serve, combine and heat with milk of choice(I like almond or coconut) in a 1 to 1 ratio (per serving, generally use 3/4 cup of concentrate to 3/4 cup of milk) and sweetener of choice. Or, if you like, just add to water to make tea.

4 teaspoons loose rooibos (or three rooibos tea bags)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups milk (I used soy.)
2 teaspoons honey
Optional: ground cinnamon (for garnish)

Steps:

  • In a sauce pan, boil water and take off heat. Steep rooibos for about 5 minutes. Add honey and vanilla extract.
  • Heat and froth milk using a milk frother.
  • Divide rooibos tea into two mugs. Fill to the top with milk froth and top with cinnamon.

2 cinnamon sticks
2 teaspoons cardamom pods, lightly crushed
1 teaspoon whole cloves
2 slices fresh ginger, quarter-size, lightly smashed
1/4 teaspoon whole black peppercorn
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons loose rooibos tea leaves or 2 tablespoons black tea leaves

Steps:

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a large saucepan and bring to a boil over moderate heat. Reduce the heat to moderately low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until pale rust colored, about 20 minutes.
  • Strain the chai through a fine sieve and serve hot.

3 cinnamon sticks
3 peppercorns
2 whole cloves
2 tea-bags of rooibos tea
pinch of allspice
pinch of nutmeg
pinch of ground ginger
agave nectar or honey to taste

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, add the water, cinnamon sticks, peppercorns, and whole cloves. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Rinse a 5-cup (1.25 L) teapot with boiling water; discard. Add the spice mixture, including the spices, to the teapot. Add the teabags, allspice, nutmeg, and ginger. Stir gently. Cover the teapot and let the tea steep for 3 minutes. Serve immediately.
  • Add some agave nectar or honey if desired.
