- Batter:.
- Mix all ingredients except apples til smooth. You can do it in the 9 x 13 pan if you like. Then stir in apples. Preheat oven to 350.
- Topping:.
- Sprinkle toppping on cake, and bake for 45 minutes. Topping will be deep brown and bubbling.
ROMAN APPLE CAKE
I've been making this cake for over 40 years and it is so easy and moist. It's not a "pretty" cake but it is oh so good. A great cake for gatherings, very portable, and not overly sweet and it is always a big hit. I never have any left to bring home.

- Sift together the flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a large mixing bowl.
- Blend in sugar, butter/margarine, milk, egg, and apple. Mix on medium speed.
- Pour into greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
- Cream together all the topping ingredients. Sprinkle over cake batter.
- Bake at 350° for 45 minutes or until done.

Steps:
- 1. Cream together shortening and sugars.
- 2. Beat in eggs.
- 3. Beat milk with soda mixed in, add to beaten mixture.
- 4. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon and add to creamed mixture.
- 5. Fold chopped apples and nuts into cake mixture. Pour into oblong 9" X 13" greased and floured pan.
- 6. Mix together topping ingredients. Sprinkle over top of cake.
- 7. Bake at 350 degrees for 55 minutes
